My dog was sprayed by a sunk!!?

My dog was sprayed by a skunk this morning. He was sprayed directly into his mouth and one eye. I cleaned his eye and mouth, as well as the rest of him. His rabies vax is good for two more years, so I am sure he is ok in that area. The thing is, he ran all through our house!! It is soooooo funky in here, and I am not sure how to get rid of the odor. I have a solution that is good for dogs, but not the home. Any suggestions would be great.

Update:

Oh yeah, he definitely stinks. I have vinegar I am going to bathe him with along with our bedding and the carpets. Luckily, he didn't touch anything until after he had been bathed the first few times. But, yeah this will be an interesting day, for sure.

Would using a vinegar solution in my steam cleaner work on the carpets??

    This happened to us back in March. I let my dog in my house and realized eww he had been sprayed. Luckily the only thing he touched was his bed. I threw it away and got him a new one. If your dog actually touched anything it will be tough to remove and will take time. If he didn't and the odor is in your home you will need to open windows and clean. Your dog will also smell for several washings. My dog just recently lost his smell. It is worse when they are wet. Good luck and have plenty of patience. I bought tomato juice, lemon juice and baking soda and white vinegar to clean.

    Wash your clothes with a bit of vinegar.

    Febreeze everything.

    You can also try a product call skunk away- Available in a shampoo for the dog and spray for your house. They are about 12-15$ a bottle.

    For those who have had a dog sprayed by a skunk- the preservatives used 10 years ago when canning have changed. the tomatoe juice/soup did not work on mine. ( he got sprayed last month).. except for tomatoe juice all being all over the place.

    Source(s): Skunk away is available at PETSMART, PETCETRA or any petstore, and you only need to use it ONCE.- Also known as SKUNK OFF, just looked at the bottle. You can also ask your vet. ( they always have it- but you will pay extra for it)

    Tomato juice is the key...Gets the smell out (: and for your house. Tons of glade plug ins lol

    Good clean air, a lot of Frebreze and time. Look it up on the internet you might find suggestions there.

    throw tomato juice on everything, helps get out the smell

    tomato soup works just bath him/her in it and it will get the smell out and then just bathe him/her in reg soup to get the tomato out so the bugs dont carry him/her away lol
