I don't chat online. This is the closest I get to doing that. I am actually pretty scared that I will like the person then find out the person on the other computer will either be a teenager playing a prank or a pervert or convict with a sick mind. That is too bad because I believe there are a lot of genuine people in this world that would like to be friends and that could be really fun also ! In fact, I could use a couple new friends and would enjoy meeting new people.

Treat people you chat to online like you'd treat someone you talked to on the street, and you were blind. Talk to them in general terms. Don't give them any identifying information. A good rule of thumb is to use the same rules you use with sending email: only tell them things you would not mind being posted on a well-known web site (because it very well may be).
