why is my refrigerator always running?
the only time it stops running is when it goes into defrost cycle - about every 6 hours. i bought a long, thin brush and cleaned the coils. i put vasoline on the door seals. the freezer is about 1/8th full and the refigerator is about 1/3rd full. the food is cold and the freezer keeps stuff frozen. how long and often should the cooling system run?

In a refrigerator temperature = pressure , the thermostat or temp setting is a pressure adjustment lower temp lower pressure, but unlike an air compressure a refer unit pumps down the pressure to a vacuum, freezers are generally 0-10 inches of pressure very low, depending on the age of unit as to what type of coolant is used, does the unit shut off if you set the temp higher, unit could be low on coolant, or seals on motor not holding the pressure in the refer coils

Frost free means it keeps running to clear the air (inside the fridge) of liquid. If you have anything that is not covered your fridge will keep running..You have done everything right as far as maintenance goe's. If it keeps running then the next step is to call an appliance repair to check it out.It may need freon or a new thermostat.

If you stop loading it up with fatty foods it won't feel the need to burn off those extra pounds.
You better go catch it, and tell it it's fine the way it is.
