Spiritually asking, Have you ever noticed the wide and sometimes even careless use we make of the word ...?
Have you ever noticed the wide and sometimes even careless use we make of the word "good"? without thinking... what God would consider good?
Something you might consider good, someone else without fail will consider it only fair, poor or even bad or evil. Even the other day, I was speaking to a fellow and I made a statement which said... I want to be God's good woman... instead of God's nice women... and of course he thought we ladies have to be nice... at all times... but ... when you study this word... "Good" there are many meanings to this... "Good" has implications of some degree of excellence. There are varying degrees which lie unexpressed, hidden in the heart, when we use "good" as a sweeping generality... it is up to us to Know what God's ideal of Good is... and so... i am studying ... and wanting more of this... to form my ID, in HIM
So… here are a few… Can you please explain what these mean?
Tob, Tub and Hesed
Tob, tub and hesed are three Hebrew words translated into the English "good" or "goodness" and many other words besides those two.
We use it to indicate competence (good at math); reliability (good brakes); strength (good eyesight); kindness (good of you to come); moral excellence (good deed or good works); behavior (good child); enjoyment (a good party); thoroughness (gave it a good wash); immensity in number (a good many people); beneficence (milk is good for you); soundness (a good reason); expedience (thought it good to have a try); freshness (is the meat still good); worthiness (good old George); attractiveness (has good legs); moral rightness (did it for your own good); promise (good news); a desirable end (sacrificing the present for future good); favor (a good review).
There are many more, but this is sufficient to give us an overview of some of this very versatile word's uses in everyday English. It is used as a noun, adjective and adverb and is the root of the word "goodness." The common idea in almost all of its uses is that it suggests a desirable quality, something commendable, reliable, welcome!
(Miss Leslie) yes...we are to determine God's ways...sorry to disagree, for if we are to be like minded... we best learn what LIKEMINDED is... so we can reach the Full Measure... Jesus did say... "Greater things will you do" so... this holds a great future for us, if we would just get with it... God's program... we are Resurrected with Christ... and to me this says... we can draw on His Power!
Keep in mind that "Goodness" is one of the Fruits of the Spirit... so we are to understand this God's way!!!
This question could go on and on... so stay tuned ... for the next few questions... on Goodness... and Good...

english is very careless with words, modern english even more so - a brief scan of the most common words in the dictionary will bear that out
that's part, not only of translation problems, but a general "dumbing down" of society
one cannot understand a text without understanding of the society and culture at the time it was written - or in religious speak, one cannot understand without having the "same spirit"
it's a good question, but lost to many for the above reason

It's a question of semantics not faith or religion. The language in which we choose to describe an action to be good or bad is rather limited. Causality, intent, mindfulness and background information can and should be examined. So I would have to answer that we throw around the word with little or no thought.

No one is good..no not one. Do not spend your valuable time on Good. We have sinful natures and that is ours till we die. We might think we are doing good, sometime or another...but don't fool yourself, one second of a bad thought and you brush over it as nothing, what happened to the repentance for that thought. It was forgotten cause we have so much STUFF going on in our head...we would be in repentance every minute of the day to keep us clean long enough to even mention the word good. Of course you can do as you please but if this is what you really want...then your thoughts have to be connected to Christs thoughts with out a breakage in the line of communication---as His was to the Father when He was here.. Satan is right at your heels waiting for just that second you drop your guard on who roams this earth devouring every humans "Good moments" with ugliness. I know what I am talking about because I live there. I know that each individual lives in his own place and no one is the same..so if you can find this word for your existence, for personal self to God, then bravo but now at my age, this word will never be a reality no matter how much I desire it. I have allowed too much STUFF in my head and once you get it into your head, it stays. It just piles up, heavier and heavier until you can see with a clear eye the difference between light and dark. I see my Lords light all the time and its always His and that is the way it should be. My repentance at times is made of tears, the reality of depression, sins of my parents that I never over came..They seem to be ingrained. I count the days left on Earth..One day at a time and Long for my Lord. God be with you in your search.

The act of what is good can only be two as one or two made one as what God did. For the Father and Son are good. No one is good only God is good. The LORD is One and the Lord God is good. “ex-cellent” is good, cell is the functional basic unit of life.
The word cell comes from the Latin cellula, meaning, a small room. For a human cell neeeds to excellent to do good it meets as a large room As Lord, and is often called the building block of life
Be good , a block of life

That word is overused cause of the duality of the world we live in. There are an equally number of things we refer to as "bad" so we by default must have the same number of terms indicating the opposite of "bad" which is "good". In Spirit these illusions are done away with for the simplistic reality that everything just IS.

I think the thing about God is that when you have decided that you adore Hm, you wish to be His emissary on Earth.
Just as a daughter might represent her father when dealing with others, we wish that by our actions the heavenly Father might be known. Because we are good, goodness is made manifest.
I love this question, as it gets to the cause of goodness amongst women who show His compassion, His love, His cheerful heart.
Once again, a beautiful thought!

Excellent question about good or goodness. And it is true that our way of using good may not be God's way of thinking good. But as long as our goodness is based on sound doctrine then we know we are in the mind of Jesus Christ.
Where "good" first occurs in the Bible is in the story of Creation in Genesis.
1In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
4And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
10And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
12And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
18And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
21And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
25And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
31And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Jewish thought about life and God has educated me much. And this area of "goodness" and "good" that your question brings is a new one to me. I looked on line and found this great read when you have the time. It is the second link. It is a speech by Rabbi Micah Greenstein. In the last part of this excellent speech he has several points and the two that highlight goodness are points seven and nine.
Thank you so much for this wonderful question. Blessings to you.

"Good, great, ace, awesome, fantastic, excellent, brilliant and amazing" are all words that have lost the lustre of their true definitions.
In life though, yes, "good" is relative - what is good for a dirt-poor african might be banal to a super-rich Japanese person.
I think "good" is defined by positivity - "good" isn't anything that has a negative connotation.
ie - if something is "good" - it does nothing that could do any harm - ergo "good" can be neutral.

It is given onto the wisdom of heart, yeah it is much use in words to create and destroy. But my heart and wisdom can never be betrayed by my own self. So that even as man stands before me, say that he will, his heart is his wisdom and your truth stands before others be not of a weak heart. use your words with power. I Child of the Light command.
