How much time does it take to become a Top Contributor?

I don't mean how to become a top contributor, but actually how long. 10 points for Best Answer!

Update:

If that's so, Jessie, then is the Astronomy & Space category very busy or not?

P.S. Great answers, guys! Thanks!

It really depends on the categories you participate in. First of all, can you even get a badge in those categories? (Jokes&Riddles and Polls&Surveys don't have badges, for example.)

Categories with low participation, or at least low consistent participation from other users, might earn you a badge in 2-3 weeks. Busier categories with a strong core of consistent users may take a few more weeks, say 4 or so.

It also depends on what sort of questions you answer. If you're just answering anything and everything to get 2 points, you may never get a badge. If you mainly answer questions seeking advice and knowledge, rather than chatty questions or survey/poll type questions, you'll get the badge more quickly as you'll get more BAs.

Also keep in mind that once you get the badge, if you significantly drop your participation in that category, you'll lose it again. Can earn it back though!

  • According to Y!A : "A "Top Contributor" is a member of the Yahoo Answers community who has shown that they are knowledgeable in a certain category. Each user can be a top contributor in a maximum three categories. You earn it or lose it depending on your recent participation in a certain section. The more positively you contribute, the more chance there is that you will get a TC badge. Just like featured users or category leaders, it's another way to give credit to community members."

Y!A has never said what the precise requirements are. It's commonly accepted that you need to answer a lot of questions (50?, 100?, who knows...) in a category and get Best Answers on a certain percent of them (probably 10-15%) each week.

You can have TC badges in up to 3 categories at a time. There is no TC badge for the Joke& Riddles and Polls & Surveys categories.

If you never became a Top Contributor on this account, then it will take utleast from 2-3 weeks depends on your activity.

If you became a Top contributor and then lose it,then you want to restore it back then it will take only one week if you was REALLY active in the category you want

The badge reward only on Monday morning, which stays utleast 2 weeks even if you don't be active

the Badge "Don't" depend on your level, you can be a Top contributor even if you was level 2.

you can't become a TC in a particular sections such as "Polls & Survey" and "Jokes & Riddles" because these sections are not helpful for gaining knowledge and are based on peoples opinions.

You can get 3 badges for the TC

It all depends on how much time you spend on this site, if you spend about 1 hour a day on this site then it would probably take you about a fortnight to reach top contributor. This is providing you are spending time in one category and receiving the best answers as well. Once you have top contributor badge then you still have to spend the same amount time on this site to maintain the badge.

I'm sorry pal i don't really use this sit that much, just when i'm looking for an opinion. but there are very bad mannered arrogant people on this site who think they know the answer to every question, all knowledge no brain's, they annoyed me one time when i put forward a theory about the big bang, they slaughtered me for it, they should have known better because it's a metaphysical q,something not proven one way or the other, really annoyed me so i posed another one .....what is more complex, the mind or the universe, i never heard any smart answers to that poser, someone will give you the answer you are looking for, but as i've said i only use this site sparingly ,hope you get your answer which you will....... ned
