I'm trying to write a science fiction story, hopefully a novel. In it, there's a setting in which 12 planets form a ring around a star. The idea is that, while these planets are not equivalent in mass, they are of equal distance from the star--that is, just like how every point on the edge of a circle is equally distant from the center, all the planets are equally distant from the star. Now, according to my understanding of Kepler's laws, these planets should orbit around the star at equal speed, without any possibility of a collision. Is this true?

The origin of the universe occurred approximately 13.7 billion years ago, when the explosion of the Big Bang happened. The force of this explosion not only heated up matter, but made everything start getting away from each other. As millions of years passed, the universe slowed down in expansion, galaxies were formed, and stars and satellites of these objects were the inhabitants of the galaxies. My question is, if matter in the universe moved away from other matter, how can space be expanding? (Note: Consider the expansion of space as stretching taffy, and then you will probably understand what I am trying to convey.)

I know that whenever you touch something hot or bang yourself somewhere, a pulse signal is sent as a message to the brain that you are in pain, so that you'll pull away your hand or you'll shout "Owch!" However, is it so that the nearer to the brain you hit yourself, you'll get a pain signal quicker and the pain will be more effective?

I just recently read that a galaxy called the Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy will collide with the Milky Way in the future; we do not have any idea how that will effect life on Earth. But when will it collide?

The name I want to give is "Eta Carinae." When I edit my preferences, it doesn't work; so I went to Yahoo! Pulse and fixed it, but it gives "Betelgeuse" instead. Can somebody help me?
