Why do some people pass gas & think it's funny?

My husband and his family loudly pass gas (both ends) in front of everyone and rarely say "excuse me" and they all think it's funny ! My husband makes his burps into tonal sounds and draws it out. I find this vulgar and rude. With all honesty I have at times thought his tonal burps were funny but not all the time ! The farting is what I have the worst time with. All of them are age 45 on up to 79 years old.

Update:

All answers are great :) I have said things like"ok, that's enough fun for the night " or "enough already " I just get tired of it all the time.

Farts are funny. Well, sometimes. Obviously, it depends on the situation because while it may be amusing on a golf course or while in a car with your friends, it's usually not acceptable in church or when in an elevator with strangers.

It sounds like you've married in to a family of hillbillies, and as I come from a long line of rednecks myself, I feel I can speak to this issue because there's no excuse for bad manners or uncouth behavior. Maybe it's okay once in a great while, when outdoors, or with your friends, but never indoors in a social setting. It shows a complete lack of respect for self, and especially for you. If you've shown weakness with this group of goat ropers then they'll compete to annoy and disgust you even though they should have graduated from the fifth grade by now. I don't have any easy solutions for you, because the only thing you can do is to limit your exposure to them and try to get across that you find their behavior childish and rude without making yourself seem superior or prudish in any way.

Your husband is another story, however. I'm a veteran and a carpenter, so I've spent most of my working life in mostly male, always immature environments. My wife civilized me fairly quickly by making it clear that certain bodily functions were best not shared and that she rarely found them funny. Sometimes, but not often, anyway. If he's still making rude noises and smells frequently then he too, is showing lack of respect for you with his unwillingness to change his childish behavior. There may be other issues that he's not communicating about and he's responding in the way he was taught by his family. I'm not a psychologist or a counselor, just a carpenter, but it sounds like he needs to grow up and tell you what's bugging him or at least stop acting like an eleven year old. Again, I don't know how you communicate your feelings to him as I'm male and talking about feelings isn't my strong suit. Power tools, certainly, but not emotions. Ask some of your married women friends how they tamed a formerly savage boy and made him into someone who can be part of civilized society. Or ask their husbands, because they might have a different answer, and though it may not help you and the Clampetts, it could at least be interesting.

Well first off your the minority in that most people think farts are funny, well atleast the funny sounding ones...But I understand that if it's constant it could become annoying and rude. Burps are by far worst than farts but if you would just say something once they would get the point and would more than likely hold back on the butt clapping

ya that is pretty gross. Only little kids and old people are allowed to do that, or teenagers who are being funny sometimes.
