Adopt This Dog or Another?

I've been wanting a dog for quite awhile, but have not been in a good place to care for it. Now I I have a steady job and have extra money and a schedule that will let either me or my boyfriend be with him all the time.

So we've been looking at one dog for awhile. He's been in the no kill section of the shelter for about two years. He was adopted out briefly before he had some problems and was sent back. He doesn't deal with pain well and has bit a vet, and an older woman. Though with the older woman, no one really knows what happened because she had dementia, and didn't return the dog until a week after she was supposed to have been bit, and never saw a doctor.

But, in my household there are two puppies. They do like to kind of play rough, and one of them is about 8 months old and 65 lbs, so she can be annoying and rougher than she means to be, and when we lived with more people she had some dominance issues. Honestly, most of the time they wouldn't be left alone together, as the puppies spend a lot of time outside or in their owner's large room. But there is still a chance they will be left alone together...

Also, he's had some digging problems, which in most cases wouldn't be a problem, but on the chance we do need to leave him in the back yard, I don't want him to dig out...

Every time I picture myself with a dog, I picture him. Yet I'm still worried about his problems. Should I look at other dogs and see how I feel about them? I don't want to fall in love with another dog and regret not getting the first one...

What would you do?

Update:

They're not my dogs. They're my landlords.

And I definitely do not believe that a dog bite is so black and white.

Update 2:

Also, I do have a lot of experience with rehabilitating dogs, and I'm lucky that my landlord (who is also my sister in law) is a professional vet tech and dog trainer.

However I do see your guy's points, thank you. Thumbs up to you guys...

Wow! It really sounds like if this dog has any chance at all in life...it will be through YOU. First get yourself a good kennel - Metal kennels are much stronger than the plastic. You don't want the dogs to be alone together like you worry about. The kennel is an easy answer and helpful in training if you use it right. I cannot imagine a better hope for the dog than you, your boyfriend and your vet tech sister in law which means there is a good family support. The dog will probably be microchipped when you take him home and that way if he gets out of the yard, by digging he will be pretty easily found. It sounds to me like you already know all of this and have actually made your decision. I just want to congratulate you and tell you how proud I am that you exist! Now if we could just clone you up to several million to take care of all the rest of us? Woof Woof lol

My heart breaks as I think of this dog living in a shelter for 2 years. The vet issue lots of dogs do that my dogs love everyone except the vet (but only when she at her office) see her at the dog park and they love her. so I wouldn't wast to much time on that worry. as far as the old lady if she is confused she could have been bit by a bug and thought it was the dog. The only thing that worries me is the aggression of the other dog. I would get him and work hard to get those two dogs to get along. You do know when putting dogs together (You) and all the other humans have to be relaxed. If dogs see you relaxed they will get to know each other, if you humans are all keyed up then it will rub off on the dogs.. You must fill your house with positive energy, get rid of the negative... good luck :-)

It sounds like he has some issues that I don't think you'd be ready for, and I wouldn't want to take that chance if I had another dog in the house. Right now I'd keep looking for another dog that would be better for your home.

For me, the biting a vet and their being issues that brought him back to the shelter and that he's been there 2 years greatly concern me. Dogs can become instutionalized, that shelter life is all they can handle. I would look at another dog.

Do you have enough experience to solve his issues and be patient and work with him? . can you afford a professional trainer in case you weren't able to control his biting and digging?.

if this is your first time owning a dog, i do not recommend getting one with problems.

it's never good to fall in love with the looks and cuteness, spend sometimes with him, see how he acts towards different animals.

and definitely look out for another dog

you may in no way get yet another canines as a "playmate" to your modern-day canines. in case you elect for yet another canines, that's yet another tale. yet whilst the only reason you're pondering adopting yet another canines is because you think of your canines desires a playmate, end appropriate there. in case you do no longer think of you might have lots time to spend with 2 canines, it must be acceptable to no longer get a 2d canines right now. relatively, make investments the time to deal inclusive of your modern-day canines to greater suitable outings alongside with a pass to to the canines park or a pup play date with a chum's canines. possibly take some training training to exercising her strategies. Getting a 2d canines as a "playmate" or to "shop the canines employer" once you're at paintings feels like a stable theory. yet relatively, the two canines will spend the final public of the workday asleep on the sofa waiting which you may return domicile (have confidence me, I unquestionably have 2 and that i be attentive to they only sleep all day jointly as me and my husband are at paintings...waiting for us to return domicile so as that they are able to play furiously).

Why are you getting another dog if you already have 2 puppies? You need to fix THOSE dogs issues first before considering getting another dog.

A dog that has bitten a human should be euthanized. Period end of story. No you should not adopt this dog, it is a liability.
