antique related people, antique dealers or anyone that knows something about antiques?

antique field related people, antique dealers or anyone that knows something about antiques?

I recently had an inheritance from a far distance family whom were strangly enough not eligible according to will. The inheritance was reasonable but there was a particular object/set that was passed down from generations to generations. I was told bythe former employers that once served the previous recent relative who passed away that it all dated back to shang dynasty.

-I want to exhibit/put on auction the object. How do I do this?

-Also do i need to get it assessed first to know its worth?if so how do i do that?

-I heard theres 2 famous antique fairs in London that only comes yearly that exhibit/auction things that worththe same as the stuff you find in museums. any ideas about this?

-If the auction/exhibitions dont work how do museum works?can i sell it to the museum?

by the way i am from London and i dont know how antiques work and where to start.all your ideas and suggestions are most welcomed.

ps I havent got the object valued but lets just what if its not something ordinary that you just got out of your attic that i can go to any local dealers to value it. So any contacts/details would be great esp specializing in oriental objects.

Christies London should be able to help, you can find there phone number in yellow pages then make an appointment ,take the item with you, don't go to dealers, museums cant buy direct from the public and wouldn't be able to give a value they can only give you the details that you already know of when you sell at auction you can state a reserve price
