Rap & Hip Hop - Buy or Sell: Kid CuDi let the whole "I make different music" thing get to his head?

"Man on the Moon II" is kinda whack. CuDi's lyrics are way more simple (simpler than his debut, which is sad because they weren't anything praise worthy), the production is nice... but other than that he's commercializing on the whole "I make different music than everyone else" thing.

1. Scott Mescudi VS the World feat. Cee-Lo

-Good track, Cee-Lo is good on the chorus. CuDi just does CuDi on this, sounds like his debut.

2. REVOFEV

-Seriously... "I'm so higher... so higher... and I like it..." CuDi, we get it. You're a stoner.

3. Don’t Play This Song feat. Mary J. Blige

-CuDi is basically crying, I can barely make the lyrics out. I studied them the best I could...

4. We Aite (Wake Your Mind Up)

-An interlude, nothing else really...

5. Marijuana

-Seriously... we get it, you are a stoner. You need to expand, CuDi. This is where I feel like you're a one trick pony...

6. Mojo So Dope

-"Ay, we live this sh*t/My mojo's so dope, b*tch, my mojo's so dope/ Yea, we live it live it, yea we on it on it/Give a f*ck about a lifestyle, give a f*ck about a mothaf*cking lifestyle."

Seriously... that's the f*cking chorus? Wow...

7. Ashin’ Kusher

-Like the rest... weed... CuDi, you need an intervention...

8. Erase Me feat. Kanye West

-Sick, like gonorrhea... which isn't the good type of sick. Kanye ripped the song, but the beat and CuDi's singing... you're a rapper, not Joe Jonas.

9. Wild’n Cuz I'm Young

-No longer ranting about his weed addictions, it's nice. The beat is the best part. CuDi make it pretty unbearable with the chorus. "I be wild'n cuz I'm Young..." repeating over and over.

10. The Mood

-Probably one of the better tracks. They're all grouped together where the album has a pick-up point. Nothing special though.

11. MNIAC feat. Cage & St. Vincent

-Featuring Cage? This is the Cage that was "Depart From Me", not really that great, the track is nice. CuDi does horrible though.

12. Mr. Rager

-Dark like the rest of the ending tracks, it's okay. Again, nothing great lyrically for CuDi, kinda pop-ish too.

13. These Worries feat. Mary J. Blige

-CuDi... stop whining on tracks with Mary J. Blige. It's annoying. I like this album, I'm not going to kid but this whining is annoying...

14. The End feat. GLC, Chip Tha Ripper & Nicole Wray

-Worse track on the album. CuDi does good on it though, weird isn't it? He story tells a bit, but is cut off short.

15. All Along

-Sadder version of "Solo Dolo". That's it.

16. GHOST!

-Stop singing... I liked the half-way mixture of singing/rapping CuDi did, but this isn't good.

17. Trapped In My Mind

-Poppy ending... all CuDi does is sing... again but being trapped in his head. Not really the best way to end an album but okay...

In total, I think the album would have the same effect on me as an instrumental album. It's pretty much the same (maybe, a bit worse of an) album he released the first time. Hopefully it grows on me or something...

Rent. This is the first thing I've listened to by him. I enjoyed the album when I listened, even though it's not that great. Production wise, it was solid (minus a track or two). The singing didn't bother me for the most part. But there weren't any real "stand out" tracks. I thought there were some good ones and then the rest were just okay or worse. Nothing I'm going to go back to and listen to again. I'd give it a 6.5/10.

Cudi's album is simply amazing! no need 2 argue, we all have our opinions but I would suggest opening your mind up a bit, the music is so much deeper then what your stating... or maybe you just don't comprehend or understand the Genius of Scott Mescudi. Like he says on the album he's come to WAKE YOUR MIND UP - it's unfortunate that you don't appreciate the music for what it is. And for the record Cudi isn't arrogant he's confident- there is a difference.

"All I do is try to make it simple. The ones that make it complicated never get congradulated" -kid cudi

If you don't like it listen to something else? Nobody cares about your opinion. Let's see you do better.. where's your album?

YES! I just figuired out why I didn't like the music anymore, you said it "CuDi let the whole 'I make different music' thing get to his head."

I loved CuDi when I heard A kid named KuDi back when it came out, And the debut I loved as well. But after that I dropped his music, & didn't know why, but it's because it's all about sadness & being different, like a true hipster, haha. Plus Kid named KuDi had kudi dropping rhymes, it faded with the debut. I bought the debut, but won't even check out the 2nd, Another album full of the same? No thanks.

oh, and am I the only one that gets the feeling KiD CuDi is actually spoiled vs being emotionally unstable/depressed? I can't be the only one.

"you're a rapper, not Joe Jonas."

Haha, agree with you on pretty much everything. Don't Play This Song is good though, that's the one thing I disagree with you on. But yeah, I think this is pretty much just a weaker, played out version of the first one.

@B.K.S.: There was a lot more rapping in the first one though, and also a lot more in A Kid Named Cudi. And both of those turned out a whole lot better than MOTM2 did.

Why are you analyzing this album from a rapping perspective? The fact that you keep labeling Kid Cudi a rapper and tell him to stop singing shows you don't really get his style of music.

If you went into this album expecting it to be lyrical I would get why you're disappointed. But why would you expect it to be lyrical?

Cudi is more Gorillaz than Wu Tang. His album has elements of hip hop but it certainly isn't a straight up hip-hop album.

I just judge music on whether it sounds good. And this album sounds good.

    Co-sign Buffalo and B.k.S.

I actually really enjoyed it. I never think of Cudi as a lyricist.

I have nothing to add about him musically that's already been said.

He's the single most arrogant rapper I've ever seen. Seriously. Kanye has at least considerable talent to back up his ego and will admit when he's wrong (admittedly in a dramatic way) but Cudi comes off to me as incredibly arrogant in interviews and his actions.

I listened to it a few days ago,and to be honest i really wasn't feelin any of the songs at all.I wasn't even expecting him to be lyrical or anything,i was simply expecting good music,i mean there's a few that are ok,but i was honestly expecting more. For me it's one of the year's disappointments.
