More common than you might think. She should be respected for her decision to wait. More girls are finding purity the answer rather than sex.

I don’t think it is very common these days. Some cultures have a strong belief that you have to be a virgin when you get married, but I think the percentage that follows these beliefs is getting smaller and smaller. For some people sex is like exchanging a phone number. They meet at a bar go home with them have sex and never talk to them again. I pray that I teach my daughter well, and that she realizes that if she does not respect herself no one else will. I was in my mid teen about 14 years ago and I think most of my friends lost their virginity at about 16, some even earlier.

I would say that either she has strong moral convictions and is able to resist peer pressure and societal pressures to have sex, sex, sex.....she isn't trying hard enough or is just not appealing to the opposite sex.
I lost my virginity at 17 and I thought at the time that I was just a freak. Mostly due to peer pressure.
When I was 15 I had a girlfriend that had lost her virginity at 14 to a 21 year old guy. We never actually had sex because she felt really guilty about it- later I found out it was statutory rape.

I am glad to see that there is a change happening because too many young girls today think that have too - some before the age of fourteen
I just answered one young woman's question who is 20 and in a relationship, about the same thing. She is not sure of the guy, but, thinks that sex will strengthen the relationship. If you are not sure of this guy, then what is there to strengthen!
Your one of the growing few! Be proud of it!
