How to make an edible volcano eruption?

At school, my class were told we had to make a volcano and make it erupt. My teacher showed us a few examples from other classes. One of them was a cake, which he said they had made some sort edible foam or explosion. He said they ate it afterwards so everyone in the class were saying things like "Oh, I hope someone makes one like that!" so my friend and I decided that we would.

We need to make the volcano explode. Does anyone know how? Here are a few some things to keep in mind:

a) It will probably go onto the cake, so if has to be food.

b) Don't say Diet Coke and mentos, or vinegar and baking soda, or anything that would be gross with cake.

Not much else to say really. Please answer if you have any ideas! Thanks in advance!

Update:

By the way, I don't need a recipe for the cake, I already have that.

Update 2:

I'm going to experiment on all of these at the weekend, and taste them, too.

You will need to experiment a bit but if you make a regular victoria sponge and add an extra teaspoon or so of baking powder or bicarb soda (you will not really taste this particularly if you make a chocolate cake) plus whisk the egg whites and fold then in then bake the cake in a really hot oven it should crack and explode. Normally a cake is baked at 350'F/180'C/gasmark 4 so try baking it at about 425-450'/225-250'C. This way the cake will rise into a peak and the top will cook too fast then crack and the insides should bubble out of the cracks. put a baking sheet underneath to catch the run-off.

Hmmm. Try something with pop rocks maybe. Maybe take icing, mix with some vanilla coke and then add the pop rocks. Hope that gives you some ideas.
