some suggestions and input :)?

I am having a christmas themed wedding in december 2011.

It's not going to be an expensive wedding, we are renting a hall and everything is mostly going to be done on our own ( with family help)

Colors - im seeing red, silver, white with, green pine and lights.

Center pieces, maybe some ornaments in a bowl or something home made with acorns or something along those lines

Favors, Im thinking somehting like short bread cookies wrapped in pretty transparent paper and a ribbon and maybe an ornament with our date painted on, maybe a mini box of home made chocolate, i hate the original favors most people give, where they usually just end up in a drawer somewhere.

On arrival I was thinking of giving something like hot chocolate or egg nog along with the cookie wedding favor

FOOD! is my main issue, Its going to be home made.

It will be a buffet.

Turkey,Ham,cranberries, pickles mustard olives, that type of stuff bread and butter, salads but then i also want to have other types of stuff, I was thinking swedish meat balls...what else could i make??

after the food we will have cake and coffee..

at midnight we will have a table with sandwiches, cold pizza..what else?? and then once again some little desserts, ginger bread men, maybe some candy..

so

ideas on

Favors

centerpieces

food walking in ( snack and drink)

main christmas dinner buffet

midnight snack

midnight dessert

Thank you

Update:

LOL who said My mother in law didnt give me most of these ideas.. Thank god your daughter in law took over your poor son.

Update 2:

Well I havent got a wedding dress yet,

but i would LOVE a nice lace long sleeved wedding dress, but, its a cheap wedding, I seen one at davids bridal for 200, its strapless velvetty red ribbon under the bust and they have a really nice long sleeve jacket for 50 bucks.

Update 3:

Because I want a christmas wedding...the weddings about ME and my FIANCE, and what WE want.. not what the guests want..I didnt ask whether i should have a traditional wedding or not, I asked for ideas on my christmas wedding..

after 7 hours of dancing and drinking.. People get hungry..its a midnight snack.

Update 4:

there def will be a pasta dish.

Any wedding the serves cold pizza at a late night snack is one I would want to attend. :)

    - Favors - I would do a bride and groom gingerbread cookie

    - for your cocktail hour, I would do finger food. veggies and dip, cheese and crackers, fruit, nuts, Since you are doing it all yourself (with help) keep it simple.

    - For your meal, how about doing a potato dish? Scalloped potatoes are nice. We use to put mashed potatoes in a big serving pan, cover them with bread crumbs and cheese, bake it until is was crispy. It looked fancy but was easy, plus it stayed piping hot for a long time. People like Swedish meatballs too. Even chili is a good addition to a winter buffet.

    - Get ready to hit the post Christmas sales to stock up on your decor. Acorns are more Fall than Christmas. How about bowls of pine cones with inexpensive ornaments? Or a pillar candle in the center?

It sounds like you've got it well planned!. Just a couple thoughts.

You may want to reconsider the turkey and dressing. People get kind of burned out on turkey this time of year, since it seems like we eat it non-stop. There's lots of options if you choose to go that route. You could do up big batches of lasagna, for example. Or else do the turkey, but serve it somehow differently.

Also, don't forget to do a lot of post-Christmas shopping this year. There's a ton of stuff on sale, and Christmas markdowns are huge.

Finally, on that late night thing, it sounds fine, but you might be unrealistic if you're thinking everyone will be staying that late. This is holiday party time, and even when it isn't, people don't hang around 7 hours. The food is a great idea, but don't expect the whole group to still be there.

PS - You said something in your comments that sounded bratty - that the wedding is about you and your fiance, not your guests. I don't know what you were responding to, but that's not a very smart thing to say, because the only time that's true is when you elope and HAVE no guests. Otherwise, of course you take them into account, as does any good hostess.

I know it is your wedding and it is about how you two want it but you have to be really careful with those colors and theme otherwise it will look cheap and tacky.

    Food

I think your idea is a good idea go with the whole Christmas dinner style wedding

    Ham

    Turkey

    Potatoes (mashed)

    Cranberries

    Stuffing

    pickles

    Perogies

    Cabbage rolls

    Buns

2-3 salads depending on how many people (couple suggestions)

    green salad

    potato

    coleslaw

    maccarroni

    ceasar

    broccolii and grape

I wouldn't mix a christmas feast with the swedish meatballs and that stuff though

you could do meatballs as a part of a midnight snack or cocktails.

    cocktail ideas

    finger sandwiches

    cheese

    crackers

    pickles

    sausage

    deli tray

    fruit

    puff pastries of all sorts

    for dessert could do

    tarts,

    cupcakes,

    bars,

    and wedding cake

and you HAVE to legally serve a midnight snack if you are serving alcohol

For decor, I reccommend not using acorns they may look nice but can be really messy

    could maybe

do something like this (4th and 5th pictures) I like 5th best.

I love your idea about the hot chocolate packets

    and cookies.

    Hi and congratulations!

    Here are my ideas:

Centerpieces: I LOVE the idea of a bowl with ornaments in it (in your colors). I would go with the red and silver as opposed to the red/green. Like this, but with silver ornaments (not gold):

    http://0.tqn.com/d/entertaining/1/0/T/F/redandgold...

Favors: If you want to do the shortbread cookies, that would be nice, but I would not hand them out upon arriving, Instead I would give them out upon leaving. Put them on a table and instruct your guests to take on their way home. OR....another idea. I was at a New Year's Eve wedding a number of years ago and they had a decorated Christmas tree with silver snowflake ornaments. You were instructed to take an ornament home from the tree as a favor. I really LIKE that! I still use it to this day. You can get lots of cheap snowflake ornaments from Oriental Trading Company:

    http://www.orientaltrading.com/ui/browse/processRe...

As a note, I would NOT personalize an ornament as a favor. Just go with generic ones. NO ONE (except for very close family) will want to hang an ornament on their tree with someone else's initials and wedding date on it!

Food: As far as upon arrival, you could go with egg nog and hot chocolate if you want. OR....are you having beer/wine and/or liquor? If so, direct people to the bar!

Dinner Buffet: I would just go with the holiday tradition of ham, turkey, potatoes, stuffing, gravy, rolls/butter, a few different jellos, and wedding cake!

Midnight snack: Assorted meats/cheeses and rolls so everyone can make up their own sandwiches. Have some chips and pretzels. That should be enough! I don't know if you need to get into another dessert unless you want to.

Wow, you are really making the plans to keep your guests happy and that is great. Love all of your ideas, but one thing worries me..............

You say "what else could I make?". Please don't tell me YOU are preparing all of this food. Even if you have lots of help, this is no time to be in the kitchen preparing all of this food. You are going to be completely exhausted on your wedding day.

Other than that one concern, I think your plans are great and oh so thoughtful.

I think you are on the right track with everything. It all sounds like it will be great. Ask your wedding party and your family for more ideas. I think what you have will be fine but if you want more ideas, ask them because I bet they could have some great ideas becuase they know you personally. Good luck!

I think you should add a pasta dish with veggie's in it. There are many people now days that do not eat meat. I am not quite sure why your planning another meal at midnight. This seems like a un necessary extra expense.

Won't your guests feel that they are at your place for Christmas rather than at your wedding? What's wrong with having a traditional wedding instead of making it into Christmas?
