If they fire me, is it legal?

I have been working for a company for a little less then a year now, and we have a new GM in place. She is requesting a background check from all employees, saying this was not initially done... which in my case it was, and is in my file. So...This will be my 2nd background check since I have started. My first background check came back as denied. I failed it, but was I given a chance to prove myself with a probationary period. I have surpassed the probationary period, and actually surprised my managers with my work ethics.

So, now that we have a "new" manager, and she is running the backgrounds... can I be fired from work? Is it legal for them to fire me if I have done nothing wrong?

Thank you.

once you are an employee they can run a background check every week if they like, you have no say in it, and yes you can be fired

Probably can, depending on company policy, etc. Do you have anything in writing form your former manager stating he probationary period, etc? Is it in your file? Try talking to the new GM.

At this point you have few employment rights as you have been there less than a year - see link. They can therefore fire you for no reason and say anything they like. Employers sometimes do this so that people do not get to the point of having employment rights. Seek advice from your local CAB asap.

If you're in the US, unfortunately yes it's legal if they fire you. That doesn't mean they will, though.

    Good luck.
