Can a vertical computer be laid horizontally (on its side) without problems or damage?
Because of space problems, the best position for my Dell Inspiron 570 computer would be flat on its side. Can this be done without causing problems or damage? I imagine that the CD/DVD player will not work properrly, but is this a fact? Are there any other components that will not work or do so deficiently?

Yes, it can be laid horizontally without causing damage. A computer doesn't care which way up it is. Most optical (CD/DVD) drives will also work on their side without problems too. The only thing to make sure of is that if your case has a side vent/fan, then it should be on whichever side ends up facing upwards.
