This is the easy stuff. Learn this now so you be screwed for the lYrr stuff. But all it basically is is just adding like terms. For your first problem. 4+7y-10 you subtract 4 from 10 and then put it as 6+7y and theres your answer. And the second one is the same. Just subtract 17xy from 16xy and then add 14x and 8x and then write it as 22x+xy

Combine like terms, so on the first one add 4 and -10 so it will be 7y - 6,,, and do the same on the next one, 16xy can combine with -17xy to make a -xy and 14x can combine with 8x to make 22x so your answer is 22x - xy

then 7y=6

y=6/7

and

14x+16xy-17xy+8x

combine like terms

14x+8x +16xy-17xy

22x-xy

then

you can factor out an x

x(22-y)

you got to combine like terms, so on the second one if you combined 8x and 14x it would be 22x +16xy-17xy. If you need to find the actual value of the variable then you would need to use substitution.

That means you would have to get either x or y all by itself and then find the other variable

You have to figure out how fast he is going, Miles per hour like, So how many times can 8 go into 464? that will tell you the MPH, then multiply that by 5 1/2. same with the second question, it's the same concept.

add 4 and -10

7y-6=0

7y=6

y=6/7

2nd one.., I think you're supposed to factor it so...

14x+8x+16xy-17xy

22x-xy

x(22-y)

If these are equal to 0 from that property, then

x=0

22-y=0

y=22
