How do I get internet access where there is none?
We are throwing a big party tomorrow and wanted to surprise the person the party is for with talking to people on skye and doing some karaoke. We just realized we won't have access to Internet at the hall. How can I hook my lap top for internet access for the day. Someone mentioned internet sticks, what is that?. is there a dial up way? or an antenna of some kind? can I get these things at radio shack or Walmart? I am open to ideas. maybe even paying for a month access.

Moe,
You didn't mention what country you were in. Some countries sell aircards.no contract involved. You do however prepay for time but it usually quite inexpensive. Don't know what the sticks are. Maybe usb units. That has nothing to do with the internet. Its for a portable way to store files so you can use them on a different computer. Forget dial up. it is slow as molasses. No antennae will help you. Some providers like Clear who is in California, Washington and Oregon I believe have modems but that's a contract and a drawn out affair. And forget Skype unless you're using broadband service. Otherwise that does not work.
So, to my knowledge are my thoughts.
Good luck Moe

Lol at "internet sticks" there are Internet drives (Same thing) that you can get most likely from Best Buy or Radio shack, but be careful people who work at radio shack usually don't know anything about computers. also there is a multitude of Phones that can create WiFi hotspots. Also With Sprint (getting a bit expensive now) You can purchase a 4G subscription plan and buy one of their hotspot things that I can't remember the name of.. Oh and one thing i forgot is, that Also AT&T sells those "internet sticks" (lol) too. pretty sure that's what you looking for sorry about not posting links. I have sprint so I didn't bother to look but Happy Hunting.
