Im 17 and was taxed, how do I get my tax refund?
Okay I got my pay slip which said I'd been emergency taxed, so I filled out a form my employer gave those of us who were emergency taxed not sure what it was anyway she sent it to the tax people or whoever. Does anyone know where I can go or how and when I will get my money back? There are tax offices I know but do you know what I might have to bring them? Soo annoyed because they taxed me and I just turned 17, my first job and the first month of working there, I;ve been waiting for like 5 weeks already and they havnt given me my money back.
Please help I'm a student and who isnt doing too well right now moneywise.
Thanks x

You are still liable for tax, although depending on how much you earn, it could be zero.
It sounds like you were asked to complete a P46, although if you have indeed completed that, your should have your tax code changed soon.
However, ask your employer for his tax office telephone number and contact them. Quote your National Insurance number, and inform them of your situation. A corrected tax code should be sent through for your employer to operate within a few weeks and you should be refunded then.

I have never heard of emergency tax, but I do know that everyone has taxes with held from their wages, even if you are under 18. You probably have to wait until you get your w-2 forms after the first of the year and then file for your income tax refund. However, if you are claimed as a dependent by your parents, you may not get the full amount back, you will just have to file and see.
