What do you think of this statement by former atheist G.G. Jampolsky, MD. about becoming spiritual?

In his book "out of darkness into the light" he says:" Ithought that I must have a very

confused and twisted mind indeed, because I found the path neither simple nor easy.

My ego seems to put up a great fuss whenever I attempt to change a belief system.

But I am not unique in this. Virtually everyone who has chosen a spiritual path in life has found the required UNLEARNING both difficult and painful. I am certain it is this unlearning, more than the learning that gives the most trouble".

Update:

Dr Jampolski is a Psychiatrist living in California. He has written several best

sellers and started Attitudinal Healing

Center which deals with children that

have serious diseases and little hope

of recovery. Books: Love is letting go of Fear, Teach only love, goodbye to guilt.

I have heard of him & have read some of his writings.

I believe he is also a student of ACIM.

I not only agree with his statement, it has been my experience.

In my journey it has not been that I needed to learn anything, rather unlearn those illusions, misconceptions, programs, & beliefs that covered up what was & has always been my True Identity.

That which we label ego, having a perceived pseudo life of it's own does attempt to block, mislead, or stop us every step of the way. What makes the ego so effective is our identification with it, the belief that it's thoughts are our thoughts, those feelings it engenders are our feelings! This is in fact it's greatest weapon, how can you possibly not follow that which you honestly but misguidedly believe to be you?

Armed with your faith that it is your identity, the single most difficult task any face is to move our identity from that of the world based ego to that of the Spirit!

In the beginning it feels overwhelming. We see what appears to be the many parts of this illusion self.

But with vigilance & practice, we begin to gain insight & clarity into the whole of this voice we have thought to be self for so long, & it begins to reveal it's self for what it is not!

Then it becomes more simple, more clear.

There are not a thousand things that must be changed or overcome, we realize we are working at just one thing, one task.

Then we begin to realize that we are simply working to Come to Remembrance of our First & True Estate.

Could it ever be possible that God/Source could extend into Being that which could ever be changed, made to err, or be "sinful"?

May we all come to Remember our True Identity, & that Source of Love that extended & caused us to Be!

    Many Blessings!

Never heard of him. Just a mere man like any other. So what.

His words are no more important then anyone else's.

Seems he is still having trouble in his life, with or without the spiritual aspect, and this in the early optimistic stage of his conversion, does not bear well.

Beliefs dig their way into our psyche and are reinforced every time they are referenced. The longer we believe in a certain way the harder it is to change. Naturally, if you never actually choose to change, and protect your ego as most of us do, then you will not move closer to the truth, and will stay with your old beliefs.

My father was in his 80's when we were discussing religious beliefs. A lifelong Catholic, he showed a rare moment of insight when he said "I am too invested to change. I can't afford at my age for Catholicism not to be right."

That's funny, because former believers who become atheists often say something very similar. Intellectually they don't believe but unlearning their former automatic responses is sometimes very hard.

Unlearning is a good word, he forgot what logic dictates.

He is no more an MD than I am.

In fact, he's in jail for real estate fraud. That tells me everything I need to know about him.

That kind of gibberish reminds me of why I am STAYING atheist!
