Is Emigration clearance required for an Indian for visiting Australia/United States?

My friend has planned for a visit, as a Tourist, to Australia & United States, 6 months stay in each country. Is Emigration clearance required in the form of an ECR/ECNR endorsement in the Passport?

    No!

As per the Emigration Act, 1983, certain categories of Indian passport holders require to obtain "Emigration Clearance" from the office of Protector of Emigrants (POE) for going to certain countries. "Emigration" means going out of India of any Indian citizen with a view to taking up employment in a foreign country.

The Indian passport holders who have the stamp of ECR, are required to get emigration clearance from Protector of Emigrants if going out to any country except Pakistan, Bangladesh, European countries (excluding CIS countries), all countries of North America, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Singapore, South Korea and South Africa.

better to get a ECNR. it actual relies upon on the guy who's on the immigration counter. ECR is uncommon and officer can argue on the inspiration that the guy showing that he'd traveling SG or cleared international locations yet might visit a diverse u . s . a . which isn't cleared. ECNR does not take multiple time and at max at some point.
