LPG burned my leg at petrol station?

Hi,

I have concern as today had filling an LPG in to my car and I had a huge release of liquid LPG on to my leg. After this accident I wasn't sure that something bad happen , but later had pain coming in and when back home looked on to a naked leg it was a big area of burned skin.

when i was trying to get info on web how to treat such a burn. This petrol station had no deflector plate fitted to the nozzle.,To avoid customers getting LPG onto their hands.

What should i do in legal way: to report somewere or to suit this petrol station of this H&S breach?

Regards,

Yep! Pretty much any sudden change of temperature, will do it: up or down.

If the burn has caused you to suffer permanent disfigurement or loss of income or other financial damages, then consult a legal adviser. Start with Consumer Direct. It seems that the supplier has failed to provide the goods or service with reasonable care and skill. Quite important I should have said - where dealing out 'bombs' is concerned.

    They're in the 'phone book.

But in any case, I would report this also to HSE. (The Health & Safety Executive - Google them and get their telephone number) as there is quite clearly a big health and safety issue here.

(And maybe even a bomb disposal one by the sound of it!)

Regards, and I hope you make a full recovery soon.

You got frost bit for one. The injury was a flash frozen type of injury, and flow running water over the area to thaw it out is the way to address it so long as to not exceed the temp of body temp for the water used.

The thing you need to consider is what is the legal requirement on the part of the station owner to have that deflector? There may not be a requirement due to the need for the nozzle to be clear of potential obstruction in cases of a remote connection where it might interfere with such an installation.

You also need to consider the possibility that you had assumed liability in the handling of the nozzle, especially if you knew there was supposed to be a deflector, and that you understood the health and safety risks that go along with handling the nozzle anyway.

How often have you filled an LP tank before? If never, no court in the land will side with you. If it was a legitimate dispenser failure, and you have filled with the same equipment for years, that is a bit different matter. But you also need to weigh the possibility the station owner may stop carrying the LP due to the potential problems and liabilities it represents.

While your leg may be tender for a few days, as long as you do not need to see a doctor over gangrene, you will not be able to demonstrate much of a loss. As for who to query about potential safety concerns- the people who certify the accuracy of the pump are the ones to query initially. There will be a tag on the pumping station in a highly visible location usually.

The first thing to do is to approach the service station and ask them about their safety equipment, point out the failing and request compensation for the injury, if it needed medical attention. Put this in writing and send it to the company's registered office by recorded delivery. This address should be posted at the filling station or the staff should give it to you. (They must by law.) In your letter request a reply within 14 days. Give them that opportunity to reply. If they give a satisfactory reply by addressing their failings and offering adequate compensation - I'd say a free tank of fuel for a minor burn, more if it needs hospital treatment - settle and accept their offer. If their reply is inadequate or doesn't come, report them to the Environmental Health Department of your local council - district/borough in two tier areas.

As to the burn, this is two injuries in one. LPG is very drying to the skin, so that may be the main problem. However, it's also very cold and volatile, meaning that it can give you a freezer burn. Decide whether the burn or the dryness is worse. If it's the dryness, rub E45 into it at regular intervals through the day. If the burn is the main injury, check with a pharmacist and don't put E45 on it unless the pharmacist recommends it.

Quit being a wuss and bear your scar with pride, I hope you learned a lesson from all this! Let the authorized personell screw with LPG!

BTW, Since when does non authorized personel go anywhere near a LPG filling station let alone operate the station themselves? I know here in ohio, they don't let you within 50 ft of the filling post, and thats everywhere i know of who fills LPG.

Also, they tell you (and theres signs all over for every kind of fuel or gas mixture on earth) Never to fill any kind of tanks while they sit in your car, the static electricity could ignite volital chemicals causing explosion and possibly death. Don't you know how to read or pay attention? This really is more a common sense thing (which aparantly isnt that common anymore).

it is not enforced because of the fact it incredibly is rubbish. there grew to become into, while the crucial technologies grew to become into of the analogue type, a tiny probability that the sign to or from the telephone would desire to spark vapour in the gasoline tanks. Utter rubbish, and not shown. Now that analogue has long previous the way of the dodo and all recent telephones in the united kingdom are digital there is not any probability in any understand. of course, that's usually probable that would desire to the telephone intervene with the pump registering the perfect quantities the oil companies, with their 'tiny little' earnings, they had quite tell the regularly occurring public there's achieveable of explosion quite than a wager the regularly occurring public could shop money. it is not unlike tranferring ammunition around a warship. we are informed to no longer use cellular telephones because of the fact the electrical powered sign can spark a around off and definitely blow us all to bits. which persons on board discover particularly exciting. Why? because of the fact we pass ammo from the top deck all the way down to the magazines via going previous electric powered structures donning, each and every so often, 440 volts....
