Why are Washington Post liberals suggesting that Barack Obama announce that he will not run for a second term?

Obama himself once said to Diane Sawyer: "I'd rather be a really good one-term president than a mediocre two-term president." He now has the chance to deliver on that idea.

This is a critical moment for the country. From the faltering economy to the burdensome deficit to our foreign policy struggles, America is suffering a widespread sense of crisis and anxiety about the future. Under these circumstances, Obama has the opportunity to seize the high ground and the imagination of the nation once again, and to galvanize the public for the hard decisions that must be made. The only way he can do so, though, is by putting national interests ahead of personal or political ones.

Update:

The authors of this Washington Post op-ed, Democrat pollsters Doug Schoen and Pat Caddell see Obama pulling down even more Dems in 2012.

Maybe Bush made them write it?

If Obama runs for re election in 2012 Obama will lose by a large margiin and will cause many other Democrats to lose as well.

In fact the reason that the Democrats lost so many seats in the House in the past election is because Obama is doing such a bad job as President.

Essentially Obama taints all of the Democrats.

    lol... what comical propaganda...

the writer seems to think that Republicans would open up their arms wide and love obama if he said "I'm going to quit"

it's just the opposite and any 5th grader would tell you... they would smell the blood in the water and push harder than EVER not compromising on ONE MINOR ISSUE even...

COMPLETE GRIDLOCK... with the excuse of "this guy doesn't even think he has what it takes to be president so he's not even running"

that article is a Republicans wet dream... and NOTHING more...

you would have to be comically naive to politics to read it without laughing...

and it would basically doom the democrat party in 2012... due to the weakness that Obama shows and Republicans would bransish for two years straight...

I mean what kind of democrat could even run in 2012? it couldn't be anyone even midly associated with Obama, or they would just say "he's weak, just like Obama"...

the simple fact is... it's not the end of the world as this writer seems to think... it's just a rececession...

I never thought I could lose more respect for the post, but here we are... lol

The only interest Obama will ever put ahead of others is his fanatical dedication to transforming the USA into a communist state, or a third world cesspool if that fails.

He has no other goal in life.

He hasn't even been caught having an affair yet. And he's a Democrat.

That should tell you how fanatical he is.

obama likes the freebies associated with being President too much. It is like being on welfare, only more so.

He will not get another term. He will be a one term president. Because in the next presidential election I am not voting for him.
