If I Need A New Processor Do I Have To Buy A Whole New Computer?

Just bought Grand Theft Auto 4: Episodes From Liberty City for PC. Actually I have a laptop. My lap top is a Pentium 2 with 2.0ghz speed and ram. My video card is an ATI Mobility Radeon X300. On the game it says I need an X1900, this might sound dumb but which Video card is better, the X300 that I have now with Windows 7 or the other one?

Also, in the Processor requirements it says that I need an Intel 2 Duo 1.86ghZ or an AMD Athlon X2 64 2.4Ghz. Now I don't know what all that means but I know I have Intel 2 installed in my laptop and my processor is a 32-bit Only.

If I need a 64 bit, do I need to buy a whole new computer or is their a specific product that I can buy at a store?

Thanks.

2 of your laptops put together would not run that. You cannot upgrade your lappy to run that since your socket will not handle any CPU good enough, and video cards are soldered to the motherboard

Your P2 is not 64 bit capable either

If you want to install a new processor there is no need to buy a new laptop. To change the processor just uncrew the back panel to reviel the screws for the keyboard. Unscrew them. Then flip the platop right way up and open the lid. Take off the keyboard (there are usually some clips on the top of the keyboard that need to be undone). There is no need to remove the cable from the keyboard to themotherboard. Unscrew the fan and put it to the side. once again there is no need to remove thecable from the motherboard. Unscrew the heatsink. the heatsink is a lage copper thing that is next to the fan. unscrew and remove it. now you should see the cpu. undo the screw above the cpu. it would do about 1 3/4 turn. there may be a little reistance before it is turned all the way. the cpu should just lift out with NO EFFORT OR PULLING REQUIRED!!! Insert the new cpu into the socket and repeat all steps in reverse to put the computer back together. the enture proces should only envolve undoing about 8 screws and would take for a fist timer about 30 mins.

if you need a 64 bit then you will need a new computer.

hope you can exchange your cpu easily.

You will be hard pressed to upgrade a laptop in 95% of them. Most are not able to be upgraded on a cost effective scale. The Processor alone could cost you more than your current laptop, just for the part not including the installation.

You can buy a new motherboard and CPU and RAM, but use the old power supply, disks, CD, case, keyboard etc. If you have old IDE drives it may be worth getting a new SATA drive to use as the primary disk; it would be faster.
