I can remember the National Anthem being played in cinemas when I was a kid back in the sixties - it usually prompted an undignified scramble for the exits.

As far as I remember, the practice of playing it lapsed some time in the early seventies.

I remember that in the SKC (Services Kinemagraphic Cinemas – on military bases) you had to stand for the National Anthem in the late 70s, possibly early 80s don’t know if that is still the case.

Not sure about Aussie or Canada, but God save the queen is not New Zealand's national anthem. Why should we as new Zealanders do that anyway?

In the US, in theaters on military bases, the national anthem is played before the movie and we all stand.
