From what I've learned in my history class, the Native Americans actually fought alongside the British. After all, the Americans had taken land from the Native Americans, killed them, driven them from their homes, so when the British began their military campaign against the rebels, the Native Americans were more sympathetic with them. They believed that if the British won, they would get their land back. They were mostly guides to the British, leading them through woods and the countryside so that they could attack the American Rebels. However, when they sensed that the British would lose the war, many of them disappeared back into the woods, deserting the British.

    Hope this helps! :)

Yes, in fact in both Canada and the USA.. Canada wouldn't have won the War of 1812 without the support of the Iroquois.

They were of course shafted by the British on both sides of the border as their land was taken.
