Is it safe to buy online from a store that has a strict return policy?
I am planning to buy a camera and online retailers have some of the best prices around. But all the best deals come from stores whose return policies require that the product be unopened/unused.
For me this means I can't try the product at home to see if I like it, and that if something goes wrong down the line, I cannot simply return it and must go through long processes of manufacture warranties or worse, having to be stuck with a dead camera that I paid money for.
This is why I love buying electronics at Costco because it has a flexible 90 return policy, but unfortunately it has a small selection although it also have great deals.
Would you say it's safe enough to buy online from a store with a strict return policy? Or should I cough up one hundred bucks or more/choose a different product for a more flexible and safe return policy?

Have you thought of asking Costco to carry your camera or if you can special order it from them?
You can examine the actual camera at a Best Buy, or another Electronics Retailer that carries it and then try and ask Costco if they could special order it for you.
A slightly less moral alternative is to find your camera model at a more expensive store with a return policy. Try the camera out and then return it to only go on-line and buy the camera there. Of course if you show the add to many retail stores they will try their best to match it. You might be able to cut a deal like that.
Otherwise, it sounds like you are too demanding to try and buy one on-line.

definitely not. one: yes the camera could end turning completely useless. which would then have you totally pissed. Which can then lead to anger problems. Which can then lead to sleepless nights. Which then can lead to depression. Which then can lead to gaining weight. Which then can lead to losing all your friends. Which then can lead to a road you definitely don't wanna go.
so safe to say..Don't make the purchase.
