i need to rewire a space heater from 120v AC to 12 v DC?

the heater went out in my car and repair of the heater core is prohibitively expensive. I can find a small space heater for very cheap. I was wondering if I were to remove the heating element (its a ceramic style) and hook it to 12v DC if it would heat up? i would then reinstall the heating element powered by DC into the original housing. How would i calculate amperage draw?

Easier than that. If you have a camping world center in your area or if not look it up on the web. They sell small 12V space heaters. Trying to convert one from 120 VAC to 12 VDC use just isn't going to work.

Give it up, ain't worth it. Try a really big truckstop and look for a 12v plug-in heater that can be plugged into a cigarette lighter socket.
