How likely is is that 3 "security" guards would be banging on the doors?

Just a minute ago a man was proper banging down my door claiming to be a security guard from somewhere saying that someone was trying to break in to my house.

My mum didn't open the door but she said there were 3 of them and think she said she could see the security jackets. We live in a quiet area behind some estate and the nearest place where there would be any security guards is the small gp around the corning and a night club which isn't even open yet. When my mum wouldn't open the door they went around the back and then left

Was this some sort of scam and a possible attemped attack?

or have i been watching too much crimewatch?

Update:

Nope, no one called the police and when don't live in a posh residence so have no private security.

My mum said they could have got the wrong address.

But even if 'whoever' called the police, why would 3 security guards come?

How would they know about the call?

Security guards have no authority to gain access to your premises for the purpose of making arrests. You did the right thing in not admitting them to your house. You should inform the police, in case they try the same trick elsewhere.

It could have been a scam, usually is the police that do that and not security people... unless you have an expensive private property and you hire security, the ones banging on your door to check on you should be the police... I think... Your mum did well in not opening the door.

    RIng the police IMMEDIATELY.

No way to know whether it was a scam or not but that's for the police to sort out.

Tell your mum well done for not opening up but why are you wasting time before dialling 999? The police might even catch them if you're quick.

Yeah it could have been, but then it may have been some legitimate reason why they were trying to get in. Did your mum call the police? Might have been a good idea.

i def wouldn't have opened the door cos that doesn't sound right at all

suggest your mum calls the police and lets them know so they can make sure they don't try it on someone else in case they do open the door and end up robbed or worse

    thanks goodness she's ok
