Do prisoners with STDs go to separate areas or are they mixed in with everyone?

I always hear about how people get raped in prison. I wonder, wouldnt it suck if you got raped and your raper had an STD, like AIDS or herpes or something? I mean even just one prisoner with a contagious STD could easily pass it on to a lot of people, until like half the prison population is infected. Do they keep STD people in a separate area to prevent any of this? I mean surley out of all the prisoners, there has got to be some who are dirty and didnt take care of themselves and got an STD. And then when lots of people start getting infected, the system has to pay more money to take care of them, i mean some STDS left untreated can make you really really sick.

Just curious because I've seen lots of prison shows where they show what prison life is like but not once have they ever mentioned this.

Update:

wow. So if a guy with AIDS goes around and starts raping people and infecting them that's just too bad?

What if a prisoner wants to pass something on to a gaurd? Lets say they have moluscum, highly contagious warts that can be passed on by touching clothes/towels.

Update 2:

It would be so easy to pass it on to your cell mates. Just touch their stuff when they arent looking.

Update 3:

Wow. So did you ever meet anyone who had gotten an STD in prison?

It was my experience that Segregation is only for those either in fear for their lives, i.e., they were a known snitch, child molester/killer, etc. Even RHU (Restricted Housing Unit) is for punishment, not medical cordons.

Unfortunately, when you walk through the gates of any Prison you will be exposed to any and all things. And w/the drugs we have today that treat AIDS/HIV, for the most part, you will not know that a person is infected unless you are privy by their own omission.

There is a larger population of Prisons for men as opposed to the amount of woman's prisons. This affords for the DOC to place some end stage medical prisoners in one particular prison. However, unless an inmate is in that end stage, he/she is usually housed in regular Population.

The vast majority of young males that do end up doing time are in for an extremely rude surprise. There are no "Props" as they believe they will inherit by doing time when you find there's always some guy that's bigger and badder than you and he wants to make that point by "owning" your a**. Sad but true!

No separate areas. If they get sick they go on a medical ward.
