Can I keep my xbox live account if I get a new xbox?

My xbox broke and I was going to get the new one but I was wondering if I could keep my xbox live account or if I would lose everything.

    You can keep it, either by transferring the old hard drive to the new console, or by recovering your gamertag from Xbox Live (note though that recovering from Xbox Live will not recover your game saves).

    If you keep your old Xbox harddrive, You know the gray thing on the side
