What kind of reed should I buy?
I'm in Middle School, but I play saxophone for at least 15 hours a week. I've been having trouble playing, recently, because my braces hit my reed while I play and split it. I've been playing for 3 years, and normally a reed lasts me 2-4 weeks. But I've been going through them 1 every day. Rico hasn't been living up to my standards, so I switched to Fredrick L. Helmke. Those last around half of a week for me! I was looking into FiberReeds, but I play nomber 3's, and those run half of a size soft, so i would be playing 2 and a halfs. What should I do?

Ask your orthodontist if the braces can be tightened more regularly so it will go faster. Unfortunately we live in a world where your appearance is just as important as your musicianship.
Hang in there.

As long as your breaking one a day continue using rico because they are cheap. If you want, you can try a plastic reed. It has a different tone but will be less likely to break. Also, when your playing be careful with your reed and don't bite down on the reed and treat the reed gently. Also, for reeds that are good brand try Vandoren reeds. They are a higher quality reed but also more expensive.
You can get these reeds at http://1stopclarinet.stores.yahoo.net/altosaxreeds...

I realize you despatched me this query, however I play the violin. If I might use a cane reed, it might make an excessively exciting software. The simplest location I use reed's is in two-stroke engines (bear in mind that I'm a mechanic) and they're steel!
