About changing eye colors in light eyed children.?
I have a 2 year old niece...she was born with blue eyes like most light eyed babies. I read that normally a baby's eye color changes between 6 and 8 months..to a year. However her eyes stayed that particular baby blue, until around about her 2nd birthday...I noticed her eyes were different looking. My family has a very strong dominant green eye trait...her father has a recessive blue eye trait ( his family all has brown eyes..he was born with blue eyes). Right now her eyes are half blue and half green ( green around the iris part and blue around the green part) It's really pretty...
But my questions are.... how common is it for a child to have changing eye color later on especially in toddler years.?
What do you think the possibility is that her eyes will stay that way, versus completely turning green like the rest of us on her mother's side?
I guess you are right... I mean my eyes are not the same shade of green they were when I was younger...

Ah, Westerners and their light eyes! I must say I am green with envy over green or blue eyes. Kinda boring to be in a nation of 1.5 billion people (China) and everyone has the same eye color. LOL

generally the color is set in by age 3, but the hue can change further. I have a son who had bright blue eyes @ 2.5, by 3.5 they were a steady true green which they have stayed, he is now 10.
Your niece may have hazel eyes, or they could be going green. I have seen the green change very late. My middle son who had a true slate blue eyecolor till 2.5-3, its now clearly hazel and there is a prominent green ring around each pupil but the outer circle of the iris is still slate blue. He is 5 and his eyes are hazel.

I'm not sure about how common it is, but it isn't all that rare for a child's eyes to change after babyhood. My son's sister's eyes changed from being very blue to being hazel when she was 4 or 5.

I was almost five when my eyes started turning green and now they are hazel. My dad's eyes have started turning grey.
