Women don't always say that, but, I know what you mean, tons of independence among women today. As a woman, I think one reason so many young women are willing to go solo is because there are so few who live up to the role models of good men that they expected to meet when they grew up. Domestic violence is a big problem as well.

Guys today don't usually act the gentleman that they can be, and maybe its society, but, manners, treating a woman like a lady. . . these are not part of the decorum of socializing today. Sad, but it is true.

I guess because of how things where back in the day when the man would go out to work, women stayed home. Solely dependent upon the man financially.
