Similar to what is also attributed to him "Hope is a waking dream."

If you have hope in your life you are starting to "wake up" and stop merely wishing or being a drone, or being what someone already told you what you were (family, school, society).

To be awake - to start to get to know ones true being - you have to first dream of it. So if you are able to hope for better understanding, you are starting to awake and be a "man" an individual (especially meaningful in the age of slavery and house hold servant positions that are inherited and so on )

You have to start your long hard quest of truly knowing your self by waking up our of the haze and repetition of you daily - yearly- routine.

So a man who is on the verge of taking the leap into authentic self examination and self knowledge is starting to dream - to hope so if you go back to "Hope is a waking dream."

having hope is the beginning of waking yourself up to who you truly are.

A dream is not real.. hope is the same... neither of them is concrete but they only motivate you to do something,,,you dream when you're asleep..you hope when you're awake...the only difference between the two is that dream takes form when one's unconscious whereas hope takes form when one's conscious..

Then it means if you don't make the effort to succeed, it will not happen. Don't sit down without working and expect to be a millionaire.
