Personally id like to see most all non active steamers restored, and placed into some kind of active service. 4460 included. there are alot of locomotives around in museums and what not. i had totally forgotten about C&O 490 over the years myself as much as 4460 (thanx for reminding me of her!). Or how about one of the alleghenys maybe? perhaps to hold down the east coast as 3985 does the west (since those fools destroyed 1218).

now i know we have alot of berkshires around but it never hurts to have a few more! 1223?? 779?? what about all the Kanawha's that are out there? it can be done. but alas, it does take BOAT LOADS of money, alot of time and skill, and alot of scavenged parts!

who knows??? maybe one day she may run again. i certainly hope so.

Why? Seen one GS, seen 'em all. (Sorry, Doyle.)

I want to see the 4294 back under steam before I croak... An AC-12 (the last one built) and, as an SP cab-forward, the only one of its kind on the planet.

Yeah... that'd get my attention. Now all I gotta do is hit that $300 million lottery ticket to buy the rights to the seat-box. That's the only way I'd get there...

With the right amount of $ and a dedicated army of volunteers , yes. But the reality of museums is that there is never enough money to keep a coat of paint on the exhibits . And those volunteers left are getting old . Museums , and tourist railroads desperately need new blood , a new army of youth and enthusiasm to take up the torch .

I just heard about it when you asked the question. I don't know about that, but she sure looks beautiful in some of her older, happier day photos!
