Why is it so often that people say "hun" or "sweetie" when being critical of others?
I don't know if people have good or bad intentions when saying "hun" with a negative statement, but it comes off as if they feel superior to the other person.

It's to let them down gently so they won't be too offended.

perchance they're terrified of sorting out that some thing they have self belief isn't authentic? yet supposing you're a Christian, the reality of the matter is that what's being done in our call (fairly via the Christian a approaches good) is killing Christianity. because they're usually the persons who hijack the communicate and communicate loudest, they're those the generic public really usually sees. they have this unfavourable, hateful, hurtful perspective, and act all shocked and dissatisfied at the same time as human beings do not trust them. for most Christians at present, the project of learning the thanks to determine orthodox from heretical doctrine has interestingly not been confronted. both they take care of doctrine as minimally significant and so regard rates of "heresy" as impolite and unloving, or they take care of doctrine as all-significant and so regard absolutely everyone who disagrees with them in the slightest as a heretic. briefly, maximum believers look to imagine both that there are almost no heretics or that the majority of us outdoors their own little crew is a heretic. some human beings might want to be so bitter antagonistic to an entire crew basically because of what some have done. There are some claiming Christianity who're arrogant in the convictions they carry (a number of which easily change into non secular guidelines), and they fairly have self belief others are "a lot less holy" or at times even "unsaved" who do not carry a similar convictions. -- that's termed Phariseeism. etc etc, Kevin. :)

well, it makes the other person feel warm...like respected. sometimes it could used the bad way, like this:"Aw hun! It's poor that you don't have blah blah blah!" or "Hun darling, you better do blah blah blah!". It could be used the good way like this: "Hun, try again ;D You did very well!" or "HSweetie, try harder this time and i'm 100% you'll get it right!"

Yeah, usually it works as a tool for condescension. When someone criticizes you, it's usually because they think your way of doing things is wrong and yours is right, so in the process they like to patronize. Most people aren't aware of it because it just works.

It's an attempt to soften the criticism and to let you know that they don't think you're a complete idiot even if their critical statement pretty much says they think you are.

I think its their way of politly referring them 2 whatever they really think of them. Take 4 example i had a counsolor who told me her & her aunt would call sum1 "sweetie" when they wanted to really say "b+t@$" it was there inside secret(which wasent much of a secret nemore). So if the grocery clerk was being rude they'd say "have a nice day 'sweetie'" get it?

It is an ironic use of an endearment, I suppose. In assuming false intimacy, it is patronising. Like when I call other drivers "love" or "sweetheart" along with some kind of abuse like "get out of my lane".
