Lexus ES300 Timing Belt Replacement?
My fiancée has an '03 Lexus ES300 with a little over 60K miles on it. The manual says that the timing belt should be replaced at 90K miles or 72 months (6 years). The car is obviously over 6 years old but is pretty far off it's mileage still.
The car was given to her by her grandmother who had all of her scheduled maintenance done by the dealership she bought the car new from and they didn't change the belt at 6 years.
Are there any lexus or toyota mechanics out there that can give me advice on when I should actually change this thing?

I am a lexus technician and I do my t-belts and water pumps and 100k. I see other techs sell them all the time due to the age and I never see a belt that is distressed. Toyota I think sells t belts at 60k but I think that is unnecessary Also do the cam seals while you are in there because they will start leaking eventually.

I'm a Lexus Owner you can do the timing belt at 100K even later if you'd like. I've seen imports with over 150K with the same timing belt. A timing belt is not like your Fan/Serpentine belts the timing belt is a much thicker and stronger belt and it's enclosed away from debris and such. In all honesty a timing belt can fail at any mileage just like a fan belt but out all the belts they last the longest. You''ll be fine!

mate I changed my LEXUS TIMING BELT at 140k. and currently it has done 235k. . I will change at 280k. . well that's me . I am the second owner. just use genuine belts.

They should have changed it at 6 years. My guess is, they told her it needed to be done, and then told her the price and she said no thank you, because it's not a cheap job. However, get it done on a semi-urgent basis. The timing belt is probably OK, but when it snaps (I'm not saying it will) it will seriously f*** up your engine.
You have got away with it, until now - it's time to quit while you're ahead.
In the UK the timing belt change costs £400 - but everything is cheaper in north america!

I had an ES300 and had the belt replaced at 100K. I think you should be ok until then.
