Social Security Diability Benefits?

My husband receives SSI. He now has 2 children. One with myself, and one from a previous relationship. We are aware that because he receives these benefits, he is not required to pay child support to see his child. Although his son's mother would never allow this. We currently give her $250.00 on the first of each month, just to do the right thing. But we now have another child to provide for and this is a major chunk of his check. Someone told us that because he does get SSI, his child is (possibly) entitled to a check so that it doesn't take all the money he has to pay to see his son. I work, but it is hard to provide for myself, him, my son and my daughter... then adding another kid to the mix makes it super difficult. I just graduated college and hope to soon have a better paying job, so as you are reading this please don't judge, because if this is possible (that his mother could get a check for him); it isn't something we are looking at doing long term. When I do get the higher paying job, we could go back to paying her, but right now we could really use the break if its out there. So my question is: Is is possible to get a check for a child whose father received SSI benefits, or is this only for those who receive SSD? If so how would we go about doing this? Any input would be great, such as links and other info.... We feel his mother is really taking advantage of us, as we basically provide everything he could possibly need and if the government was sending her a check--that would be what they believed was fit, and therefore she would not be able to argue. I just don't think she understands how good she really has it.

m', on SSD, and no, there is check under SSI, and you should not be giving her any money if she is on Welfare as that is illegal. Send food or clothing, but no money.

As for his access to the children, is that by court order? If not, it needs to be otherwise she can legally deny him access to the child.

When you apply for SSI, the amount you get is based on who are your dependents in your household so he does not get money for his other child since the child lives elsewhere. His ex-wife might be able to get SSI for herself and the child.

SSD is like retirement social security and in that case he would receive extra benefits for the child if the child lives with him or if he has to pay child support, his SSD can be attached. Only SSI cannot be attached by any government agency.

Dependent benefits are only given if the parent is receiving SSDI. There are no dependent benefits if he is receiving SSI.

If he is receiving SSI because he did not have enough work credits to qualify for SSDI,his child would not be entitled to any benefits.
