How much of 'mental strength" helped Jimmie (#48 team) win the Championship?
Cool article on the topic
I believe a lot of his winning this Championship came from mental strength and not letting himself get beat down. In addition to experience...Furthermore, I feel that Jimmie works best in a highly competitive system (hence the chase) last 10 races..... It seems that a lot of athletes in the elite of their sport have a mental work on imaging (imagining themselves winning) and then different tactics to get their attitudes up and keep it up no matter what. It is quite amazing how on can do this. and I noticed it at the end of Phoenix with Jimmie's interview and through the week leading up to homestead then at homstead.

A lot! If you look at the end of the Chase you see Jimmie drove with in the limits of the car. He believed if he drove with in his abilities everything will work out. Denny on the other hand became rattled after the end of Phoenix and a bad qualifying attempt over drove his car when he didn't need to and wrecked into Biffle and wasted his opportunity to become champion.

Experience is huge in any sport. Jimmie has been there done that and Denny had not been there yet. Athletes always perform better when they have something to win like Jimmie did on Sunday. Denny had something to lose. Big difference and it showed up in their performance. Jimmie said all the right things all week.

Ahhh i admire all this communicate from the haters. team Lowe's is back and in a position to rock and roll. i do no longer think of he gets 10 wins this season, that became into off the hook! yet everybody who thinks he shouldn't contend for the identify is nuts. he will make the chase truthfully, and as quickly as he gets there, he's extra risky than everybody. His stats in the Chase over the years are eye-popping. while he became into at the back of in the 06 chase, what did he do? 2nd at Lowes, 1st at Martinsville, 2nd at Atlanta, 2nd at Texas, and 2nd at Phoenix. final year became into even sicker. 4 races in a row down the only precise stretch of the chase? in case you human beings think of you have heard the final of the 40 8, you're severe.

Jimmie Johnson has tremendous "mental strength" and needed it this year with the Chase as tough as it was. He goes to a therapist during the season just so he stays focused. Here is a clip from the therapist he uses:

Jimmie was the best at focusing on how to keep his car running on the track. The championship isn't all about winning races, it's just about gathering points and not letting them slip away. It was his focus on the track. Unfortunately we can't give enough credit to his team, because his team wasn't there at the end. Sad how that works out.

Jimmy has a good head on his shoulders, he knows he has to finish in the top 10 every week and he pretty much does. he is good on equipment and has very little DNF'S. he can handle pressure well, and demands perfection from his crew. his experience and "mental strength" is why he is champion (along with having a top notch crew.)

mental strength?? Was sheer luck. Denny had troubles this last race and if not for that Jimmie wouldn't be patting himself on the back saying "you da man".

Mental strength is very easy to have when you have confidence in your equipment. Between Jimmie knowing that Hendrick was giving him the best equipment of the 4 HMS cars, and NASCAR willing to do anything to hold drivers back (such as falsely penalize Kevin Harvick for speeding) then Jimmie never really had to worry. He had all the mental strength that he needed. Kevin Harvick was the one with the true *mental strength* trying to hold himself together after being another Brian France target.
