What percentage of rape accusations are false?

Has this area been studied or are the figures cited in feminist literature just opinions?

Update:

Archi, I wish you were right. However, unlike other crimes, rape can now be reported and a man convicted years after the alleged incident. There no longer is any need for physical evidence, nor for witnesses. It's just his word against hers.

Update 2:

Annie, Rape is a horrific crime. But have you ever looked at the consequences of being falsely accused much less convicted of such a crime? The question is, "how many false accusations are there?"

The feminist position in bunk, studies coming from sources with no political agenda put the number between 10 and 40 %.

Mens rights groups favour the 40% because it has been replicated and the criteria for false accusation in these studies is defined by the accuser admitting that it was a false accusation and giving a motive for doing it.

Feminist sources say that the 40% studies are methodologically flawed but don't point to any serious flaws,

    Annie stop perpetuating rape myths.

LOL it depends on what study you look at. FBI says 8%, the general feminist estimation is 1-5%, and the averages most men's rights groups give is 25-35%. All three have flaws in their estimates. The FBI only studies rape as male on female crime and their figures only focus on violent forcible rape. Feminists have too many definitions of rape and MRA don't regard enough instances as rape. The average unfounded report of most crime is 10-20% so I personally believe that to true for rape as well.

Studies show only about 10% how-ever the scale could be different. We don't always know who is making false accusation or not. How-ever with new forensic technology we now are able to get a very close idea if one is fake or not. Its hard to fake rape these days. This is why the FBI says 8%(I just generalize it to 10%). Rape is becoming hard to fake. Its as hard to fake rape as it is to make a murder look like a suicide. It is almost impossible to do so sucessfully. Investigators know the differences.

I don't think that you really understand that promoting rape myths is denigrating to rape victims, female and male. Stop pretending that the statistics lie and work towards preventing rape, put your energy towards something valuable instead of hate.

    Rape Myths and Facts

Rape exists, in part, because society continues to support most myths which condone the act itself and place the blame and responsibility upon the victim. These attitudes can be seen in our literature, religions, laws, music, science, advertising, and daily conversation - all aspects of our culture. Listed below are some common misconceptions, followed by a factual response.

Myth: Rape is an impulsive crime. It is an act of sexual gratification.

Fact: 90% of group rapes are planned. 58% of single rapes are planned. 75% of all rapes are planned. Practically every word of this myth can be converted by facts. Impulsive, controllable; as seen above, a majority of rapes are planned. Also, one important emotional payoff for the rapist is to be in control, not out of control. The primary motive displayed by most convicted rapist is aggression, dominance, and anger, NOT sex. Sex is used as a weapon to inflict violence, humiliation, and conquest on a victim.

Myth: Rape is not a serious problem in our country.

Fact: Rape is the fastest-growing and most under reported crime. Over "one-third" of all women in this country will be sexually assaulted or abused in their lifetime. An estimated 4-5 out of every 10 of all American children (under 16) are sexually molested. 50% are males. Studies show about 90% of these involve someone the child already knows. Only about 1 in 10 rapes of adults is reported, and fewer assaults of children are reported.

There have been limited studies, so the best one can do is provide a range of possible incidence of that female crime. The figures cited in female supremacist literature is made up.

The best figure I can offer you is somewhere between 10-40%.

This is a very balanced and fair article on the subject.

Honestly no one knows. Many rape accusations are false though, which is why many people accused of rape get away with it.

More rapists would go to jail if women stopped wrongly accusing them.
