I tend to wear tracksuit bottoms over my white jodhpurs in order to keep them clean while getting the horses ready and loading.]

Got to the showground, and as the normal routiene got ready for the show, shirt, jacket, check, jodphurs?

Well don't I just whip off the tracksuit bottoms in the middle of the showground (Had no reason to hide as I have trousers on underneath) and realise I never put the jodphurs on - was standing there in my underpants and wondered why I was cold.

Needless to say the tracksuit bottoms were flung back on again before anyone could see! Red faced I put the jods on inside the horsebox beside the amused horses. All I could hear was my mam howling with the laughter along with the rest of the yard!

I forgot my chaps at a local show once. We made my dad drive the 40 minutes back and get them! I've had friends forget boots and borrow some, I've seen saddles forgotten, bridles forgotten, basically everything. When I was about 4 hours on my way to APHA World I realized I had forgotten my video camera. We almost turned around but then mom realized that she could take videos on her phone. It is always funny to see what people forget. I keep all of my show clothes in a bundle with a string tied around them so I don't forget an item. I keep all of the tack in the trailer and necessary random items on a shelf in the garage. It helps to get a routine down and have everything together in two or three areas.

Competed in Hippology and Horse Bowl for 6 years. 2008 national champions Hippology team problem section. 2009 national Horse Bowl champions. 3rd place individual overall nationally, top individual in the state.

I guess this isnt really an item...but it is something I forgot!

I completely forgot the course of jumps I was doing at a show once.

I was in the ring and I made it over the 1st two jumps in the course, then after them I completely forgot what the rest of the course was. So I stopped and the girl at the gate had to explain the course to me, and I still didnt understand for 5 minutes. Not even kidding.

Yeah. I was 10. It was embarressing.

A hair elastic. I know it sounds minor, but for me it really is the end of the world. See, I have SUPER thick hair so I have to put it up when I ride or it looks beyond stupid sticking out of my helmet. I actually have to bring a backup with me because the odds of it snapping when I put my hair up are pretty good. I have forgotten one all together before, and I have also snapped it and not brought an extra. It's so bad, I actually put my hair up with bailing twine once, and the other time I was able to tie the broken hair elastic around my ponytail. Not the easiest thing to do.

My helmet. I was rushing because I was pretty late for my lesson and I was like an hour away from home before I realized I didn't have it. Luckily, they let you use helmets there and I was able to use one, except none of them fit exactly...little too big or too small.

One time I forgot how to do something important. I forgot how to steer. I was pulling up with my hands and I looked like I was driving a race car...it was funny until the horse nearly flipped my off his back because he went diagonally into some poles.

For a show I packed super old breeches that were WAYYYYY to tight, stained, and had holes instead of my show breeches. I just borrowed some of my friends, thank goodness we are the same size. I usually don't forget stuff for shows, I'm pretty anal when it comes to packing for them.

For lessons I always forget to put on my spurs or bring a crop. Which usually isn't a problem with my speedy man, but when I'm schooling other horses it can be a pain.

I was helping my trainer load up 9 (and that was just the first load) for a show once, and we were going down our list to bring horses out to the trailer. Somehow we skipped over one, and didn't realize that we were a horse short until the trailer was half-way down the driveway. That would have been bad, especially considering the show was an hour away, and there was no room on the next load for an extra horse. :P

I didn't forget it.. but the trainer at the time forgot all the paper work for the horses for the show.. not only that but he forgot 2 horses.. and all of his money.. (he was a drunk and pill popper) The best part was the fact that it was a 16 hour drive one way and we were already at the show grounds..

I actually forgot my girth once to a lesson that I had driven 3 hours one way to get to.

Fortunately, I was able to borrow one even though my horse wears a 56".

My favorite answer last time around was See Arr Harr who once had the pony all packed and forgot the kid.

EDIT - Jenny - That is freaking hilarious!

  • My cinch at one of the shows... :] Luckily my coach had packed an extra one!

Oh, and I forgot my pants for a showmanship class once. I had to wear my friend's pants (And she's 3 sizes smaller than me...). I remember someone yelling "Rip A Seam" (As in "break a leg") while I was doing my pattern... ahh... good times.
