You mean genetic? Yes, children and sometimes even their children if they don't get it can inherit it. It is an illness and if YOU get it, then that means you are more susceptible to that certain illness, so it is more likely for your descendants to get it. For example, if your family has a history of people getting skin cancer, you have a higher chance of getting it, because you are more susceptible to it. Another example is eyesight. If most people in your family have glasses, then you will probably end up having them, too, because the genes are more likely to pass on. If you want a mental illness (because depression is a mental illness) dementia is a good example. If a lot of your family gets it as they get older, you probably will too.I hope that helped.

Im not a professional but I believe that it is not inherited as much as a learned trait I believe because you deal with imperfection with depression so does your child. I believe too often we offer drugs for this but do not get to the underlying problem of how to deal with mishaps.

There may be instances where it is genetically transferred but I believe it to be primarily a psychologically communicable disease. It therefore requires education to minimize its influence upon others who live with the primary depressed patient.
I recommend that you find a support group for families dealing with depression.

Depression has nothing to do with genes.
Personality is directly correlated to the quality and aspects of childhood, and nothing else.
