Can any of you help me find the title to an old movie?

It's in Black and White. It's the story of a fat Vaudeville player who falls in love with a society woman. He gets her to fall in love with him and they marry. She gets pregnant. In the hospital waiting room, the man is told that his wife could die, so he prays that God take him instead. A beautiful female angel appears and takes him away. His wife and daughter survive. Later, while he is in heaven, he finds out that his wife thinks he ran off with another woman and his daughter hates him. He makes a deal with an angel and comes back to earth as a ghost to set things right. His wife cannot see or hear him, but his daughter can. The movie ends with him finally convincing his wife and daughter that he didn't run out on them, that he died so they could live.
