Math investment problem help!?

A total of $27,000 was invested; part of it at 10% and part at 12%. The total yield was $2,990. How much was invested at each rate?

    x + y = 27000

    .10x + .12y = 2990

    x = 27000 - y

    .10(27000 - y) + .12y = 2990

    2700 - .1y + .12y = 2990

    .02y = 290

    y = 14500

    14500 at .12%

    12500 at .10%.

    A: x+y=27000

    B: 0.1*x+0.12*y=2990

    divide by 0.1 (multiply by 10)

    x+1.2*y=29900

    subtract A from B

    0.2y=2900

    divide by 0.2

    y=2900/.02=14500

    subsitute y value in A

    x=27000-14500=12500
