I had to re-loadwindows XP into my computer.?

the start-up program asks me to enter the code on my certificate of authenticity. I have a 14 character code there. The program asks for a 25 character code. My 14 character code worked the last time I reloaded it. It seems that my computer got the chip away virus. Did the virus change the number from 14 to 25. This way people can't kill the virus by reloading windows.

Update:

like I said Randy, my 14 character code worked the last time I relaoded windows XP

It wont work now, the chip away virus cahnged the number of characters a valid code needs.

Update 2:

I will try that code your posted, thanx

windows activation key code has always be 25 characters and you should find that code number on the sticker that's stuck on to the side or under neath (bottom) of your computer if it is a Laptop

The 25 character code is the CD code from the CD holder in the XP box. Your COA is on the side of your computer I presume. They are completely different.

What you're looking for looks like this:

    DMXXY-X6279-PYC6X-K5HCD-MWDFT

Don't use this one as I changed several of the characters from my XP upgrade packaging.
