The router will not increase your internet speed. What it will do is allow you to share your connection with other computers either wired or wireless. You can use a Netgear or Linksys router or even Apple and it won't change your internet speed.

Also it depends on when you use your internet. If its at peak times and some sites are slow or sluggish thats because of internet traffic on their servers or your ISP servers. There are many factors in play. And to get faster internet service you have to pay for it. You can't go out and get a 768k DSL service and then buy a router and all of a sudden you have 6mb speeds. Unfortunately it doesn't work like that. =)

you could probable get away with it if a million is on at a time. yet the two DSL modems won't be in a position to be on concurrently. in case you do plan on getting a router. I rather advise getting the 2wire type it somewhat is a router & modem in a million combination. they are impressive and great. 2wire fashions to look for: 1800 HG 1701 HG 2700 HG 2701 HG regardless of if, in case you do are available the time of a router for loose or dirt low-priced. then you definately can use your latest modem. Setup could be a soreness while you're a puter illiterate. stable success
