How come the AGW supporters wrongly believe that we are not doing anything?

They keep saying that we are continuing business as usual, if this was the case our vehicles would still be getting around 20 mpg on average not the near 30 mpg that most fleets have to now. The US Federal Government would not be putting fuel mileage requirements on heavy trucks and buses. In the United States and other developing nations we would not be putting up wind farms which we are. I could go on, but the AGW supporters only think we are doing nothing because it would give the Government more power.

I agree, they're not being fair. A lot has been done already:

    1) Taxes on fuel is going up in EVERY country at a time when the poor are already being squeezed coz of inflation and austerity measures.

    2) New laws are coming in almost on a daily basis imposing new and costly burdens on business and their customers, leading to job cuts and greater unemployment.

    3) The cost of all modes of travel is set to double within 5 years, until it becomes a luxury that only the rich AGW supporters can afford.

    4) The carbon-offset scheme will soon take off under-pinned by an expensive minimum pricing ratio creating new millionaires out of "thin air", pun intended.

    5) Finally, let's not forget that most of the proponents of these schemes are the same people who, ten years ago, were extolling the virtues of unrestricted banking practises that have crippled the economies of many nations.

Not doing enough? Seems to me the Lemmings have never been more energetic...

Any doubts I certainly have lie in the question of ways undesirable it is going to likely be. From what i've got found out i think of it very probable that it rather is going to be undesirable, even catastrophic, if allowed to proceed. there is uncertainty, extremely over our reaction to the springing up subject. we are the biggest unknown! I settle for the instrumental checklist; what I "deny" is the statistical value of the fast term kind. As we in many circumstances element out, the increasing CO2 point isn't the only driving force of temperatures; there are various organic cycles which could have an impact over short classes. however the element with cycles is that their effect is "cyclic"; effective and adverse. The substitute by using CO2 boost is often effective. a pair of alternative factors worth protecting in strategies are the anthropogenic cooling by using "international dimming", additionally the damping effect of the oceans. lots of the warming from the CO2 launched so far is yet to return.

You are very gravely mistaken in your assessment and further education of the truth is required.

With overpopulation as the greatest evil and the major cause of the global warming measures tackling climate change such as fuel efficient cars and green solutions are useless at best because by the time they are implemented many more scores of people would have been born to this world negating it.

This is the unequivocal truth that cannot be ignored even if many oppose it now.

In time people will entertain this idea that we need to reduce our world's population when they see that more people born to this world will add to more pressure on the scarcity of resources and the further you put pressure on the environment to support growing numbers of people the more unsustainable and dangerous it becomes.

The cause and effect relations is clear on this the more people there are the more people have to fight and compete against each other for dwindling natural resources such as fresh water and food.

What needs to be said out loud is that our problems are growing and worsening by the day and it'll keep on getting worse and worse until at such time that people accept this.

In the mean time when nothing effective is being done and more delays are experienced we will see many more nightly news report of natural disasters, environmental destruction, conflict over natural resources, economic meltdown far worse than what we are experiencing now, and higher prices for just about every foodstuff on the market not to mention higher energy costs.

Who keeps saying it is business as usual? They are aware that there are various groups attempting to make a change with relation to greenhouse gas emissions as well as various levels of government. Me, being an AGW supporter myself, does not want to give the government more power over my life. I do not want to live in a communist country. I do not want to live in a country where my freedom is taken away from me. These are falsehood put forward by right-political fear mongers who are attempting to cash in on the debate amongst the general population. The point is, we are not doing enough. There are many roadblocks still in the way. To see these roadblocks all you need to do is look at what transpired amongst the political leaders at Copenhagen. The leader of the country I am from received the award for most disruptive numerous times. I think mainly, however, we are trying to put an end to the factual falsehoods that are put forward by those I spoke of before, those trying to make a quick buck on it and manipulating others to believe as they do. The power of a voting country, after all, is placed there by its people.

I support global warming, and will openly acknowledge that things are being done. However, I will also argue that we are doing too little, too late. Also, the United States is one of the few and possibly the only developed country that hasn't signed the Kyoto Protocol.

Hope this helps and that you get your head screwed on the right way.

You don't understand what "business as usual" means. It doesn't mean nothing changes and we keep driving 20 mpg cars and using incandescent lightbulbs forever. Business as usual means we continue on the current path, which includes technological advances. It also includes developing countries like China and India continuing to develop and increase their energy consumption.

The answer to your question is that we don't. The answer is that you don't understand the terminology we're using, which is why you have formed incorrect conclusions. It's the same reason you've formed incorrect conclusions about the IPCC report.

I’m not aware that AGW supporters have ever claimed that nothing is being done to address the issue of climate change – quite the opposite in fact. The majority seem only too aware that steps have been taken to reduce our impact on the climate.

Are you suggesting that people are unaware than any wind-farms have been built or don’t know that they have recycling facilities or that low energy lightbulbs exist etc etc etc.

It’s true that many AGW supporters would like to see more steps being taken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions but to attempt to claim that they believe nothing is being done seems quite bizarre to me.

In fact, when you look at what has been achieved it’s quite impressive.

I’m assuming that you’re in the US, here carbon dioxide emissions have fallen from their peak of 22.85 tons per capita in 1973 to 19.34 tons in 2007 (latest publicly available figure). This represents a fall of 15% during a period when energy demand has rapidly increased in order to keep pace with demand. In the UK (where I am) CO2 emissions have fallen by 25% over the same period of time.

    "We"?

Most deniers fight tooth and nail against any sort of change in energy policy and have been doing so for quite some time. The oil and automotive industries have openly campaigned against any measures that regulate higher fuel economy and tighter emissions standards. AGW deniers constantly ridicule solar and wind energy saying basically that they are a waste of time, effort and money and extol the virtues of fossil fuels.

I get that you accept CC and *some* anthropogenic contribution, but I think saying, "*we* are doing something" is a bit out of line.
