Black and white, or color?
Does this picture look better in black and white, or in color? I'm planning to enter it into a photography contest, but I want to know which section it would be best in.
Color:

Black and White:

I personally like it better in black and white, because I think it brings out the differences in texture and value (or light) more, which I feel are more important than the color. I may have just answered my own question, but please chime in with your own thoughts.
Thanks!
2 AnswersPhotography9 years agoAlright, people, pick your favorite! Or the one you think is better.?
Alright, so I'm entering pictures into a local photography contest, and you're only allowed to enter one picture in each category. So I just need you to tell me which picture you like best in each category. And if you have criticisms or suggestions, feel free to toss those in. Got it? Here we go:

I know that's a lot of pictures to look at, so thanks for the help!
8 AnswersPhotography9 years agoDell Inspiron 15r or HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 Quad Edition?
Alright, so I need a computer for college, and because college starts in like a month I thought it might be a good idea to buy one soon. I have it narrowed down to the Dell Inspiron 15r and the HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 Quad Edition.
In terms of hardware, they will be configured similarly. Core i7, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB Hard Drive, all that fun stuff. I like the HP a bit more because it has a metal finish and just because I like HPs, but my dad is an IT guy and uses Dell for almost all of his stuff. So can anyone chime in? Because I need a laptop relatively soon.
Also, if you are just dying to tell me about a different laptop with similar specs, feel free.
Thanks!
3 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks9 years agoHigh end point-and-shoot, bridge camera, or intro-level DSLR?
Let me start by saying that this would not be my first camera. I currently have a Canon PowerShot SX 120 IS, which has served me well for two years now. It does wonderfully outdoors, particularly in bright light, and the zoom is good for what I want 98% of the time. However, it pretty much sucks indoors. I try to avoid flash when I can, and point and shoots are not good for low light shooting.
So, in a nutshell, albeit a large one, I want a camera that will allow me to get better low light shots but that will also be versatile enough to work in a variety of situations. It would be nice if it was quick shooting and good for macros. I don't care if you recommend a certain camera, I'm just looking for general suggestions.
In closing, because I know that this topic comes up often on this forum, I know that the camera does not make the photographer or the picture. However, I also know from experience that some cameras have better abilities in some areas than others. Finally, I'm pretty sure that I will know how to use a DSLR. I use the entirely manual mode on my camera on a semi-regular basis, so I know how controls and settings work. That's not to say that I won't have anything to learn, but I also won't stick the camera in auto the whole time.
Thanks for the suggestions!

6 AnswersPolls & Surveys9 years agoIs there an app that does this?
Are there any apps that will show me how much time I spend on my iPod Touch each day? Even better, are there any that will show me how much time I spend in certain apps each day? If there are, I would love to hear about them.
Thanks!
1 AnswerMusic & Music Players9 years agoHow should I phrase the words "National Park" if I'm using them several times in a list?
I'm listing where we went on vacation for a post on my blog, and in the list I have I use the words "National Park" about six times. I don't really want to write out "National Park" each time, but if that's what sounds best that's what I'll do. Anyway, here are my options:
a)We visited Arches National Park, Grand Canyon Nat'l Park, the Glen Canyon Dam, Zion Nat'l Park, Bryce Nat'l Park, Grand Teton Nat'l P, Yellowstone Nat'l P, Devil's Tower National Monument, Badlands Nat'l Park, and the Mall of America.
b) We visited Arches NP, Grand Canyon NP, the Glen Canyon Dam, Zion NP, Bryce NP, Grand Teton NP, Yellowstone NP, Devil's Tower National Monument, Badlands NP, and the Mall of America.
c) We visited Arches National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, the Glen Canyon Dam, Zion National Park, Bryce National Park, Grand Teton National P, Yellowstone National Park, Devil's Tower National Monument, Badlands National Park, and the Mall of America.
Out of those, which do you prefer? Or do you have another opinion?
I know I'm being nitpicky with this, but I'm genuinely curious which one sounds the best.
Thanks!
1 AnswerBooks & Authors10 years agoOn the Common App "Current Year Courses" section how should I list college classes?
I am a dual-enrolled student, so I have both college classes and high school classes. Should I just put down BIO 201 and CHM 101, or should I also say that they are college classes? Does it really matter?

I'm just trawling for opinions on my pictures. If you want you can say which one is your favorite, but they're not all related.
Thanks!

2 AnswersPhotography1 decade agoIs this poem good? If not, what can I change?
This is just a poem for English class, but I put a fair amount of work into it and liked how it turned out.
What am I?
I am a purple oval rolling through life,
sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly, but always moving forward.
I am a spelunker, trying to decide which of the passageways before me
will take me where I want to go.
I am a car, trying to speed up and slow down in the same instant,
while being told to stay where I am.
I am a traveler arriving at a crossroads,
searching for a signpost
but realizing there isn’t one to be found.
I am a fluorescent light bulb—bright, but quirky.
I am a lone hiker on the trail:
I drift from group to group
yet always end up going my own direction.
I am the elevator music that tries to be please everyone
but is soon forgotten.
I am Yellowstone, known for one thing
but comprised of many others.
I am a loaded die; I have many faces
but always show the same ones
to the same people.
I am Denali, my true colors occasionally revealed,
but normally concealed amid mist and fog.
I am a child, knowing few of life’s hardships and struggles,
though always willing to appreciate its joys.
I am a baby bird sitting in the nest,
wanting to taste the freedom of the skies,
but afraid to jump.
I am a seed.
though protected and nurtured for years,
I need space to grow and blossom.
I am the sun on the horizon,
waiting to rise.
2 AnswersPoetry1 decade agoDoes anyone else favorite-hop?
One of the things I love to do on Flickr is favorite-hopping. You go into some random Flickr members favorites and pick a picture you like. Then you go into the favorites of that person and just keep "hopping". It's a great way to find nice images.
1 AnswerPhotography1 decade agoHow good is a 34 on the ACT?
I know a 34 is good for the ACT, but I'm just curious what it means for my sister. My sister got her results back today and ended up getting a 34. However, she's a freshman. In high school.
I'm really just looking for opinions about this and the opportunities that may be available, particularly in the college arena.
4 AnswersHomework Help1 decade agoWhy does my voice do this? Will it change?
I'm 16 and have been singing for awhile. My voice is somewhat quiet, but I can hit notes below C and above E pretty well. However, when I have to sing the notes C, D, or E it's like my voice drops out unless I'm really warmed up. The notes are too high to sing in chest voice and too low to sing in head voice.
Is this normal? And might this stop happening as I get older?
1 AnswerSinging1 decade agoWhat do you think of these pictures?
I'm think of submitting one or more of these into a contest, so I'd like to know whether or not you like them, and whether or not they're contest ready.
Thanks!

4 AnswersPhotography1 decade agoWho is your favorite character in Harry Potter? Least favorite?
This is just a random question I have. Feel free to write as little or as much as you want.
My favorite is Neville, because he stood up to Harry and killed Naigini, and has to deal with his parents' condition.
My least favorite is Umbridge. Every time I see her in a movie or read about her I want to throttle her. She's just incredibly annoying, rude, and evil.
