What is your opinion on this trade?

Rumor is that the Washington Capitals have traded Tomas Fleischmann to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Scott Hannan (as of the time I am posting this, the Caps bloggers, not NHL.com or the team itself, are the ones reporting this, hence my referring to it as a rumor)

The Caps already have enough offensive firepower, so I wasn't surprised to see Flash traded. Hannan will contribute on the penalty kill and is a solid defensive defenseman. Good trade overall.

Good deal for both. Washington has needed a veteran stay at home for years now, and Colorado definitely needs some offensive help. Fleischmann isn't good enough to crack the Caps' top-six and is too much of a defensive liability to be a bottom six anywhere. He just didn't fit with the Caps. Basically Washington was able to somewhat fill a serious gap on defense by cutting ties with a redundant player who in all likely hood would have been cut loose come season's end anyway. Colorado has added a potential 20-25 goal scorer who they can simply let walk if he doesn't fit.

Great trade for both teams. The Avalanche beef up their depth at forward, and the Caps get a much needed defensive and leadership presence.

The Avalanche did trade for Matt Hunwick also so they fill the defensive spot Hannan leaves behind.

Kind of a stupid trade honestly, Fleischmann is a good average foward that can get the job done when need be....hopefully the caps gotta draft pick aswell...

  • TSN confirms it.

Hannan (stay-at-home type) will be a UFA come July 2011, and actually understands the concept of defence.

COL gets some offence help, WSH might be less of a circus in their own end.
