JEEP LIBERTY OWNERS!!!?

I drive a 2006 Jeep Liberty 4x4. The car basically stalls out when first turning it on and driving it for the first couple minits. In between 1,000 and 1,500 RPM, a heavy shudder and drop in power occurs. The shuddering also happens, tempermentaly, when first starting the car, except it's very very rough..almost like the car is having a seizure.

I took it to the Jeep dealership, because Midas and Pepboys absolutely REFUSE to work on the car, because they both say they've tried to fix these SUV's but the problems are so intense that they end up keeping the car for a month. Jeep has written me an estimate of $2,000 to "assess" the problem with my car. They think there is a problem with the way the engine is "seated". My service rep says it will cost another $4,000 to fix the problem, if it is what they think it is. Basically, they want to take the whole top half of the engine apart. The car is a 2006 with 46,000 miles on it. It's basically new. I've never been in an accident that would compromise my front end or engine, so it sounds to me like Chrysler built the car incorrectly.

Have any other Jeep liberty owners had this problem or any other expensive gremlins??

$6,000 is left to paid off on the Jeep...i just want to burn it.

    Sounds like to me the dealership is saying your valves are not seating correctly, causing your engine to have a few cylinders with low compression causing misfires (the shuddering feeling). 3.7 liter engines are susceptible to this if they are driven constantly at low RPMs. It's a 2006 with only 46k miles, sounds like it was mainly city driven. The dealership will most likely want to replace the heads and valves, that's why it will be expensive- there may be a chance they just need to replace the valves, that will keep the cost down a bit. It's up to you whether or not to continue putting money in your jeep. But if you do have the engine fixed, you need to "stomp on the gas" now and then, run the engine past 3500 RPMs once in a while (after it's warmed up, though), because just running the engine 2500 and below all the time will not allow the valves to rotate and cause them to seat incorrectly in time. Believe it or not, "going easy" on the engine all the time is not what's best for it.

    Also- keep your transmission maintained, flushed and filter replaced regularly. I have seen these transmissions fail easily because of neglecting maintenance.
